Looking for 1-2 roommates in NYC

Hey all, looking for up to a couple roommates to tackle a 3 bedroom apartment for $3k each in Manhattan. No specific neighborhood but know there’re some really nice apartments we can take down with the budget.

My current lease runs through end of October and can be semi-flexible on start dates. Thought I’d reach out here to those working in finance. Send me a dm if you’d be interested, thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for finding roommates and apartments in NYC:

  1. Budget and Roommate Strategy:

    • With a budget of $3k each for a 3-bedroom, you can explore neighborhoods like Murray Hill, Gramercy, or Long Island City. These areas are popular among young professionals and offer good proximity to Midtown offices.
    • Having roommates is a smart move to save on costs, especially since solo living in Manhattan can be significantly more expensive.
  2. Neighborhood Recommendations:

    • Murray Hill/Gramercy: Studios or shared apartments range from $1.5k-$2.25k per person with roommates. Nightlife and amenities are great here.
    • Long Island City (LIC): Close to Midtown (1-2 train stops), with lower costs compared to Manhattan. Prices in LIC can range from $1.5k-$2.5k per person in shared spaces.
  3. Apartment Hunting Tips:

    • Be ready to act fast. NYC apartments move quickly, so have your documents (offer letter, proof of income, etc.) and funds (first month, last month, security deposit, and broker fee) ready.
    • For a $3k/month budget, you’ll need to show an income of 40-65x the monthly rent or have a guarantor earning 100x the rent.
  4. Timing:

    • Start looking about a month before your desired move-in date. The market moves fast, and most listings are for immediate or near-immediate occupancy.
  5. Platforms and Resources:

    • Use platforms like StreetEasy to browse listings and narrow down options.
    • Consider connecting with others in finance through WSO threads or similar forums to find like-minded roommates.

If you're serious about finding roommates, you might also want to post in threads like the "Roommate Threads" on WSO, where many finance professionals are actively looking for housing solutions. Good luck!
