Based on the most helpful WSO content, your budget and preferred neighborhoods align well with popular choices for incoming analysts in NYC. Here's some advice:

  1. Neighborhoods:

    • Murray Hill, Kips Bay, and Turtle Bay: These areas are highly favored by young professionals, especially those in finance. Rent typically ranges from $1,800 to $2,500 per person for shared apartments, depending on the size and amenities.
    • East Village and LES (Lower East Side): These neighborhoods offer a more vibrant nightlife and a younger crowd. Rent might be slightly higher, but the social scene is worth it if you're looking to go out on weekends.
  2. Roommate Search Tips:

    • WSO Roommate Threads: Check out threads like the "2021 FT Roommate Thread" or similar posts on WSO forums. Many analysts post their details and preferences, making it easier to connect.
    • Budget Flexibility: With your budget, you can aim for a decent 2-3 bedroom apartment in a good location. If you're willing to flex a 1-bedroom into 2, you might save even more.
  3. Apartment Hunting:

    • Timing: Start aggressively looking around March/April for a June/July move-in.
    • Platforms: Use tools like StreetEasy (filter for "no fee" listings) and consider sublets or AirBnB for short-term options if needed.
    • Roommate Dynamics: Since you're looking to be friends with your roommates, prioritize compatibility in lifestyle and schedules. Your hobbies like golf, cards, and chess could be great icebreakers.

Feel free to post your details in relevant WSO threads or reach out to others with similar preferences. Good luck with your search!
