Mental Health struggles
Hi guys,
Been struggling so much with mental health issues lately. Currently working a European country, the lack of perspective on the end of all this + the fact that since I've started I've been WFH doesn't really help (the company hasn't given us any indication on when we could reopen the office either).
Gyms are shut, restaurants/bars everything and been struggling to find motivation to do anything quite frankly even though I have some passions, but those don't motivate me anymore
Tried working out at home and my gf has been supporting me loads
Any advice on how to cope?
pull on those triggers. you mentioned WFH hasn't helped, restaurants and gyms being closed, why is this a concern? it may be because you feel a lack of control, it may be because you feel a lack of community, it may be because you're stuck inside with nothing but yourself and your gf and you aren't happy with the person you are. pull on those threads, let me know what you find, and then we can give you some advice on how to cope.
if you'd rather take this to PM, I'll keep it between us, happy to help
He does sounds like he's lonely and needs social connection.
I would suggest try working out outside of home. Perhaps going for a run. Buy the mest mask you can and go to an open air market place to buy groceries and maybe chat up the sellers. Go for walk around your street in the sunlight during your day.
Everyone is in the same boat. Not much you can do, just exercising, music, work, healthy food, calling friends. + any hobbies you may have.
If you are struggling with actual mental health issues, I would recommend seeing a doctor.
Ya man everyone is going through this, it sucks. That being said, try to workout at home, delete social media, start cooking, etc. Plan a trip, it's always nice having something to look forward to. (Also, you have a gf? imagine being single during this..could be worse)
Sorry to hear. From listening to scientists on podcasts and my own personal experiences, here's my recipe for a healthy and strong mind.
1) Strong body, strong mind: I know it's difficult but try to get 30+ minutes of medium to heavy effort exercise per day (running, lifting, circuit training, yoga, etc...) and 30+ minutes of light exercise (walking and stretching counts) each day. You might feel too tired in the beginning but trust me, exercise will actually energize you.
2) Eat right: It is baffling to me how much of the world's population doesn't eat right. It's even more baffling to me that most mental health issues are actually related to poor diet.
Focus on meeting micronutrient requirements. Each meal should contain a healthy dosage of most essential vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. Eliminate refined carbs and added sugar (these will cause inflammation and worsen depression). Doing this actually dramatically changed how I feel most of the time.
For reference, here's how I eat on an average day. Breakfast: Oatmeal milk/milk alternative, banana, 1 serving of mixed berries, 1 serving of nuts and seeds, and little bit of Greek yogurt.
Lunch: Baked Salmon/chicken, olive oil roasted potatoes with bell peppers and broccoli. Glass of soymilk.
Snack: Pear/Apple as a whole or in a smoothie with kale/spinach/other greens.
Dinner: Toasted whole grain bread, egg, half an avocado, beets, carrots, and hummus.
3) Sleep well 7-9 hours a day. Apparebntly getting enough sleep is also heavily related to mental health.
4) Moderate use of drugs. I'm dead serious. I don't mean do cocaine or heroine or whatever some crazy shit thay some people do. But whatever can help you take the edge off/focus/ look at the world in a new perspective.
Like drinking? Have a drink or two every once in a while. Caffeine addict? Have a cup of coffee if you need to. Weed? Maybe couple times a month might help. Just don't be a slave to it.
get a robust morning routine trust me
Seconding this. It gives you a feeling of control because you can crush it every day and also a feeling of self respect if you have the discipline to stick to it consistently
Sounds not that bad op. Keep giving her those loads.
