Microsoft Surface 3 Pro for private use

Guys,

I'm looking for a new laptop for my private use. I have a Lenovo for work which I really like but I still want to own a private laptop for personal stuff at home+private travel. Also, I don't feel like carrying my work pc home all the time.

Anyway, as I was browsing around I began to think about the Surface 3 Pro. Given that I use my private pc mainly for surfing, streaming, MS office, movies, and pictures, I thought it might be a good idea to buy a hybrid like the surface. However, can someone tell me about his/her experience with MS Office? Once connected to a keyboard, is it exactly the same experience as with any other Win8 pc? How's the quality of the keyboard? What else do you have to buy to have the full laptop experience? I saw sth. about a docking station and maybe another keyboard.

Furthermore, before all the recommendations come in: I'm just not an Apple guy although I acknowledge the superior quality of Macs; however, I am not contemplating buying one. I hate the ecosystem and operating system and want to stick to Windows. Other than the Surface 3 pro, I was also thinking about buying just a private Lenovo as it has convinced me so far; the Surface seems tempting though.

Thanks for your insights, have a good one.

Went from mac to surface pro 3 and love it. I don't have the docking station or another keyboard as I prefer a laptop at home and only use it for browsing etc. Easy to use, very easy to carry anywhere etc. Bought when I was nearing the end of my university degree and having the surface pen made it really easy to write notes on reports etc (if you need to at all - this was a pleasantly surprising feature I didn't really plan to use but am now a huge fan of).

Wouldn't recommend for anything heavy duty like working from home without having the docking station etc but that's mainly because I am used to my two screens and full desktop set up at work

I carry a similar machine: ASUS Tramformer running Win 8.1 I often leave the keyboard at home when keeping it just to browse, respond to e-mails and finish a suduko. If traveling or out all day I'll attach the keyboard cover. I have no other accessories such as an external mouse or HD.

I do use it as a substitute for a full laptop, not sure why you assumed I don't - if you read I prefer a laptop at home I just meant I have no desire for a docking station etc because I prefer using a laptop at home, and the surface pro 3 fulfils that purpose well. It's already a full laptop: could be a substitute for a desktop with a keyboard and a screen
