Money Stretching Tips For A Broke Intern In NYC

I just landed a rather unexpected internship with a firm in NYC for my sophomore summer, and I'm absolutely pumped for it. Everything about the opportunity is phenomenal... aside from the pay.

I'll only be making ~$25 an hour. I'm not complaining in any way, as this is a sophomore year internship after all, but I still need to find a way to make ends meet. I didn't really anticipate being in NYC this summer, and thus I've spent my money accordingly (Spring break trips, shoes, tons of Busch Apple). I'll probably only have about 2K in savings coming into the Big Apple, and maybe a bit of help from family in terms of rent. Aside from that, though, it's all on me.

I know there are some older posts on this, but I'd love to hear any new suggestions people have for living as a broke intern in NYC. Are there any lesser-known spots for super cheap housing (especially last-minute )? Is there anything I can do to stretch my cash for food, transportation, gym membership, etc.? Anything I should avoid spending money on? Or anything I shouldn't skimp out on?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I also have no standards at all here, as long as it's not stealing or squatting, I'm willing to do it.
