My Recent Figure Skating Mishap

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a recent incident that happened to me while figure skating. A few weeks ago, I was practicing my routine at the rink when suddenly I felt my right skate wobble. I tried to regain my balance, but before I knew it, I was tumbling towards the ice. As I fell, I heard a loud snap and felt a sharp pain in my ankle.

After being helped off the ice, I inspected my skate and realized that the blade had come loose from the boot. It turns out that the screws holding the blade in place had become loose over time and eventually gave way while I was skating. I was lucky that my injury wasn't worse, but it made me wonder how often this kind of thing happens to other skaters.

So my question for all of you is: Have you ever had a similar incident happen to you while figure skating, and if so, how did you prevent it from happening again in the future? Do you have any tips for ensuring that your skates are properly maintained and safe to use? I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences on this topic.

Thanks!

Yes, sure - I figure skate every Saturday. I give them a sharp pull on the blades and then do a little dance with them to see if they are secure. Then I throw them down on the ground to see if they will fall apart which works well, but you have to re-sharpen the blades after this.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.

it is happened to me also in my early days of skating! But don't worry. Loose blades can be a common problem in figure skating. To prevent it from happening again, it's important to regularly inspect and maintain your figure skates. Check the blade screws and tighten them if needed. Additionally, consider using thread locker or consulting a professional skate technician for assistance. Proper maintenance, including regular blade sharpening and boot care, will help ensure your figure skates are safe and secure for future skating sessions. Stay safe on the ice!
