New iPad, March 16th

CNN

Apple rolled out a high-definition iPad on Wednesday with a faster processor, a better camera and a display screen that promises to be dramatically sharper than the current model, the iPad 2.

"It is amazing," Apple CEO Tim Cook said at a San Francisco unveiling. "We've taken it to a whole new level, and we are redefining the category that Apple created with the original iPad."

The new 9.7-inch display screen will feature a "retina display" of 2047 by 1536 pixels, compared with the current model's 1024 by 768 pixels.

iPad 2 on their website is only 100 bucks cheaper and they only advertise the 16GB version. Well played apple.

Watching the live stream, they said the price will be the same as the iPad 2.

$499 for the 16GB, $529 for the16GB + 4G

Same price as the iPad 2 when it came out, yes. I'm saying they only dropped the price of the iPad 2 100 bucks and only have the base model available. This means, if you were hoping to get the iPad 2 with 32GB or with 3G at a reduced price, you're SOL

ConnorThis is the best that they could do? First they just add an "s" to the iPhone 4, now this? Disappointed.
dude what more do you want? do you want it to read your mind? enable your car to fly? get back down to earth buddy...

Honestly, I thought the bigger news was the fact that the iCloud will enable Movie storage now. At least that's what I was more excited about.

As an Apple investor and fan (although I only own an iphone), I found today slightly disappointing.

Adding 4G will be very beneficial to some people, but irrelevant to many. Also, I'm not really sure what to make of the new screen. It doesn't really add functionality, just a better picture. 4G isn't really "new" per se and while the screen may be revolutionary, it has been expected for months. Overall, this is obviously an upgrade to some, but it lacked some wow factor.

To me the bigger disappointment was Apple TV. Seriously - wtf? All they did was enable 1080p. Version 2 had the hardware capability for 1080p, but it was disabled. I'd assume that the 1080p delay was really due to movie streaming. People were expecting Apps, a much improved user interface and possibly other large improvements. All they got was 1080p and a minor UI improvement.

As an investor and someone waiting for an upgrade, I'm hoping for a blockbuster iPhone 5 this year.

Not an Apple user at all, but an investor for several months. The iPhone 4S was disappointing too but it had record sales. Same will go for the iPad 3. I expect the iPhone 5 to be a bigger step from the 4S though. Expecting a small pullback in the stock from disappointed investors / profit taking, then a continued trend upwards...towards $700 by year end.

This was a waste of a product roll-out. The only thing that has changed is the screen resolution and some processing power that only people playing games will notice. It is now thicker and heavier with no new features to really show for it. The 4G is cool, but it only matters to half of the buyers- if that. The only thing more disappointing than the features is the name "The New iPad". Steve Jobs is probably rolling over in his grave. Hopefully the iPhone 5 will be a huge change from the 4S physically and internally, otherwise they're going to have a lot of disappointed customers.

Dude all of their product roll outs with the exception of the iPhone have been a joke. They clearly don't care about having the best piece of hardware, just one stamped with the Apple logo. But it doesn't matter, people will still trip over themselves to buy the new shit. And you're kidding yourself if you think Jobs didn't have his hands all over this product. I bet he laid out the next 10 iPads before he died.

I don't doubt that he had a lot to do with the new iPad, but I don't think he would have approved of the new direction they are taking their naming convention. The next iPhone won't be called an iPhone 5 either. From here on out they will all just be called iPhone or iPad, much like the MacBooks and iMacs have never had numbers attached to them.
