New Rochelle as an outside of NYC living option?

I’ll be an analyst 1 this summer and my office is near grand central station. I would prefer not to live in nyc. I know most look to Jersey City or Hoboken but given where I work, I was curious if others would think New Rochelle would be doable/reasonable (taking metro north each day). Appreciate any thoughts- thanks!

I'm not very familiar with New Rochelle, but it looks like a 28min train ride which comes every 20min, so seems very doable.

Your firm might not cover night Ubers to New Rochelle though and you might just have to take the train back even if working late.

I have family in that area and have done this a few times, do not recommend whatsoever. It's doable on paper or with a 9-5, but that's easily a $75-100+ uber home late at night, if you can get one. Ubers do not want to take you out of Manhattan late at night except to the airport, as they won't get a return trip to the city - so you may wait 30-45 min in the wee hours of the night to get a car.

Your firm also will not cover unreasonable expenses like a daily $100 Uber.

How about Long Island City or a bit farther out on the 7 in Queens? Straight shot to GCT and 10x closer in a car.

Thanks all for the advice! Seems like it might be a bit ambitious to live there for a job with long/unpredictable hours. Waiting for the metro north late at night might get old haha
