No work email outside office

So apparently I can't get my work email set up on my phone. I'm a PWM intern and someone on my team said it's not possible to access work email out of the office. Does this happen at other banks as well? I don't believe it...

They won't be able to set it up on your phone (your personal phone) for security/encryption reasons. But if they've given you a phone there's no reason for it not to be enabled.

Sure. I was an operations intern (AKA: IT) at an AM firm before moving to their PM team.

From firsthand experience: IT can do whatever they please. You name it, they can do it.

Not all employees have access to their email away from the desk. If your job warranted having access to your email away from work, they'd have given you a blackberry-- with the exception of some firms that are trying to roll out pilot programs to put email on personal phones. But even then, that's not going to be in the AM space. If you don't need it, you don't need it.

  1. PWM internship = resume padding to get REAL internship next year, you don't need to work at home.

  2. Consider yourself lucky, enjoy your free time this summer. It's probably the last time you'll do so for a decade.

  3. Chill brother, hit the beach on the weekend and be glad your boss can't fuck that up for you. That day will come soon enough
