NYC budget / neighborhoods for PE Associate

Will be moving to NYC this summer to work in PE. Office in midtown. Where do PE associates usually live / how much are you paying in rent / do you have roommates? Target comp is a bit over 300k

Edit: Midtown east near park and 50th

The range gets pretty wide at this point. Some are still living with their banking roommates paying $1.5k for a flexed room, some are in $5-6k apartments living solo in the west village.

Midtown is a VERY broad area, what side of Midtown and what subways are you near? Trace the subway map backwards to find a few neighborhoods... you do not want to be doing transfers or 10+ minute walks to the subway just to get to work. If you post your rough area / subway preference people can suggest neighborhoods more easily.

I'd also make a list of what is important to you - #1 being, do you want to have roommates to save money or is living alone really important to you? Some other things to consider - doorman is nice to have for packages, W/D in unit is a luxury and most people are happy enough with laundry in building... do you cook and want a dishwasher/nice kitchen, or do you not care? In the more desirable neighborhoods, expect a nicer 1 bedroom to run you $4-5k at minimum.
