Optimal WFH Set-up

I've seen a few forums going around but am curious if I'm missing anything from the below WFH setup.

- Desk: any sort of cheap standing-desk that has enough room for 2 monitors

- Chair: worth splurging on used Herman Miller given how many hours I'll sit in it

- Monitors: ACER seems like a decent brand -  2x 27"+, 144hz, curved depending on preference

- Keyboard: quiet mechanical keyboard? a little unclear here

- Mouse: some logitech mouse should be fine

- Docking station: see if I can get from office

Anything else I left out or could improve? Lighting, webcam, monitor stand, etc.?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some additional suggestions and improvements for your WFH setup:

Desk Setup

  • Standing Desk: Ensure it has enough room for 2 monitors and other accessories.
  • Chair: Splurging on a used Herman Miller is a great idea given the long hours you'll spend sitting.

Monitors

  • Brand: ACER is a solid choice.
  • Specifications: 2x 27"+, 144hz, curved depending on your preference.

Keyboard

  • Type: A quiet mechanical keyboard can be a good choice, especially if you prefer the tactile feedback.

Mouse

  • Brand: Logitech is reliable and should serve you well.

Docking Station

  • Source: Try to get one from your office if possible.

Additional Recommendations

  • Lighting: Invest in good lighting to reduce eye strain. Consider adjustable desk lamps or smart lights.
  • Webcam: A high-quality webcam is essential for video calls. Look for one with good resolution and low-light performance.
  • Monitor Stand: Helps in adjusting the height of your monitors to eye level, reducing neck strain.
  • Sound Setup: Quality speakers or headphones can enhance your work experience. Noise-canceling headphones are particularly useful.
  • Ergonomics: Consider an ergonomic mouse and keyboard to reduce strain on your hands and wrists.
  • Cable Management: Use cable organizers to keep your workspace tidy.
  • Footrest: A footrest can improve your sitting posture and comfort.
  • Plants: Adding some greenery can improve your mood and productivity.
  • Personal Touches: Hang some art or photos to make your workspace more inviting.

Fitness and Comfort

  • Fitness Equipment: Bands, dumbbells, or even a Peloton can encourage you to stay active.
  • Comfort Purchases: Anything that makes you happy and reduces stress, like a massager or a comfortable couch.

General Home Ambiance

  • Smart Home Integration: Set up an Alexa or other smart devices to integrate with your home setup.
  • Art and Decor: Hang a couple of pieces of art to enhance your workspace ambiance.

By incorporating these elements, you can create a more comfortable, efficient, and enjoyable WFH environment.

My WFH desk is a 33in x 70in hand sculped Teak and I have a 47in monitor. I would recommend getting a bigger single monitor over 2 monitors, but that's just personal preference. Sometimes I have massive Excel docs and it fits nice on the 47in monitor. Mine is flat, but I'd recommend curved.
