Patrick Bateman-Autistic/Aspie?
So I've had some free time this holiday weekend & spent quite a bit of it with the iPad and kindle at the hotel pool enjoying the scenery. Anyway, yesterday read some articles and blogs about how Mark Zuckerberg has Aspergers, as apparently does an unusually high number of those working out in Silicon Valley.
Do you all think that fictional character Pat Bateman was supposed to have Autism too? Basically his entire personality in the book and movie manifested Aspie characteristics

Schizoid PD felt about right to me. If you really believe he killed those people then obviously Antisocial PD. But my take on it was that it's fairly obvious he's fantasizing about the whole thing, in which case I put him into some sort of more "mellow" personality disorder like Schizoid, Schizotypal, or possibly even Borderline if being perfect was what he wanted and he couldn't handle the criticism of others, he could be creating an alternate reality.
He was way too sociable/comfortable with people to be Aspergers.

I get the impression that a lot of "aspbergers" is just a choice by the person to not make a real attempt at socialization. Most psychology is bullshit and based on the premise that people arent at all in control of their subconsciousness or their behavior. The placebo affect is extremely strong. For more on this, see how these guys show that anti depressants are only really effective in severe cases, and that the effect in milk to moderate cases is less than half of the placebo effect.

I think parents don't want to accept that their snowflake isn't perfect, so they pathologize the child's shortcomings, whatever they may be. Then they are entirely absolved of responsibility for adapting...except through medication, if available.
I am not saying disorders do not exist. I am just observing that, if something is given a medical label, the person is absolved of responsibility, whatever it is.
Is it just me or is society getting a little carried away now-a-days? Oh you're sad, you have depression. Oh you can't focus, you have ADD. Oh you're more comfortable in small groups, you have Aspergers. Oh you're nervous, you have an anxiety disorder. It's complete non-sense. It's a mindset that's been pushed onto the general public by the pharmaceutical companies to increase their sales... the fact that ppl can't realize this is mind-boggling

I got to interact with a high functioning autistic kid, and my impression was that he used the odd behaviors to "train" his idiot parents, not that he was not in control of how he came across.
I did a few rounds of psychological evaluations for a job with a high profile government agency. I had a few sessions with a psychiatrist and a psychologist and both submitted two opposing reports; one said I am the poster child of ADHD, the other thought I was a high functional Aspergr's candidate. I can see how I could show some ADHD symptoms, but I nannied an Asperger's child and I def don't belong to the category. Maybe it's because I told her numbers and patterns make me happy.
Psychology-evaluaters (of either category) are very closed minded people despite their claims of being the opposite. Everything has to fit under a disease/syndrome/trauma.
Oh, and I don't care if Patrick is a sociopath or an alternate reality theorist....He is hot.
