Places in the SouthBay (SoCal LA) to learn to surf?
Hi I'll be heading back to CA from AZ for a 2 month assignment and was wondering if there were any beginner friendly breaks primarily around long beach, san pedro, or rendondo beach. I don't pack heat so lunada bay is not an option.

Dawg, that's useful. Thanks. There's no waves there it says 0-1 feet
Do you surf too? You're out of control
Yeah dude I’ve surfed East Coast from Florida to OBX, West Coast from Blacks up to Trestles, Jeffrey’s Bay South Africa, Lakey Peak Indonesia, Bell’s Beach Australia, Hossegor France, Sayulita Mexico.
.
El porto
Torrance/hermosa/el porto generally tend to fare better than most breaks in la, if you aren’t including orange county
Are the surfers mean to noobs. Will they push my wave storm into the rocks?
You know any real instructors in the area?
Fuck man, I’m jealous. Grew up over in the South Bay and would surf almost every week while I was in community college with my best bro before class, rip a couple bowls, grab a breakfast burrito then dip to class. A couple years in NYC and now Chicago has me missing home more than ever.
If you are able to drive and make your way down to Huntington Beach, areas north of the pier are solid. Right off Goldenwest St down to 17th is a night stretch that is less packed and has a decent sand bar break. My local spots that are closer, Hermosa and Redondo typically have lots of close outs and are better for short boards, though I’ve been able to make do with a 7’6” single fin and have brought many friends out on soft tops (these things have lots of float and you can catch these much easier, just gotta be quick on the pop up sometimes haha). Loved walking out at 2nd St right by Mickey’s deli in Hermosa, but that stretch up to Manhattan is prime on good days.
Top tier spot to visit at least once is San O. Soft rolling waves that are tons of fun, people are friendly, but it’s a trek.
I’m actually going to be back for three weeks myself this Christmas break, longest I’ll have been back in 5 years, and I plan on making the most of it! Going to pick up one of these bad boys the first day back: https://almondsurfboards.com/collections/r-series-surfboards/products/r-series-64-plez-phez-sage
Feeling rusty but I would be down to get a session depending on when you’re there haha.
Fuck the Bay Boys.
I'd be down but I won't be there during that period of time. Hope it goes... swell.

I still don't know where Dana point is. I'll google it, but I guaranty i will forget when it comes up again
I really liked salt creek beach in Laguna. In my opinion, way better to drive an extra 30 minutes to a great break than settle for Hermosa
