Police shooting: enough is enough
From BBC:
Justine Damond, originally from Sydney, was shot when she approached a police car after reporting a suspected rape.
Although this is just another story about police shooting, it is at a different level. It's no longer the case of police shooting suspects or drunk people. A police officer shot an innocent woman who didn't, in any ways, posed any threat that required the use of firearms.
Fred Bruno, the lawyer for Officer Harrity has said: "It is reasonable to assume an officer in that situation would be concerned about a possible ambush."
I know lawyers exist to defend their clients but this argument is ridiculous. She simply walked toward the officers with nothing on her hands. Yet, she got shot because the officer appeared to be in such a "grave danger". I wonder how police officers are trained. The first thing they should be educated on is how not to use guns without fully processing the situation. I mean... how hard is it? I feel like these guilty policemen fear for their lives more than caring about the justice they are bound to serve. Just relax! We are not in the middle of Afghanistan or Syria for God's sake. Or, if police has to shoot, somebody please tells them to aim at non-critical parts of the body or something. In this case, he went straight for her abdomen. In other cases, officers shot victims several times as a "warning". Aren't there any situational training and periodic tests to ensure policemen are psychologically fit for their duties?
I'm furious for the victim's family and worried about others'. With Trump planning to give more power to police, will the situation get better or worse?
How about a link so we can read the full article of how this went down.
EDIT: I was unaware of the names and did not realize this was the MN shooting. That said the officer had (3) complaints filed against him and he had only been with the department just under two years. I'm not sure how rigid the screening process is for that agency but clearly this is someone who passed that should not have,
He clearly is not fit to wear the uniform/badge and based on the information currently available he needs to go rot in prison.
Having said that the idea of condemning all officers as a whole is entirely wrong.
Don't forget that Noor shot and I do believe that Harrity did not shoot at all. Unless he said to shoot her the only reason he has a lawyer was for being in the patrol car and not having his body camera on. The whole situation is horrible.
I'm not summing all officers together. Clearly, these tragic cases were caused by a minority of the police forces. What troubles me is the uprising trend and frequency of deadly shootings. I think there needs to be a serious review of gun procedure and it needs to be done now. The public needs to hear about whatever material changes being made to keep police in check.
I think Steph Curry is the GOAT
Justine Diamond is white sooo......
Funny. So far this year with police fatal shootings the totals are 234 white and 131 black (and I do not mean the officers).
Australian woman shot by a Somalian named Mohammed in this case.
lol why the money shit? Hard to swallow the truth?
It was a white woman that was shot and apparenrly she was the one who called the police - although they may have not known that at the time.

Just stfu
:)
So you changed your comment from one stupid thing to another. Smooth.
u mad bro?
As long as we continue to accept our pervasive gun culture as well as always take the police as some paragon of truth then this will continue. We get video and these people receive no convictions. Terrence Crutcher's car stalls on the road, cops approach, he had his hands up, cop shoots and we have some video of it, no problem not guilty. Samuel Dubose got pulled over for missing a front license plate, gets shot in the head, cop says the car was dragging him so he feared for his life, video shows he wasn't being dragged, no problem it's a mistrial. John Crawford III was in a Wal-Mart carrying an air rifle sold at that same store - he was on the phone and the air rifle was pointed down, cop kills him with no warning, no problem not guilty. Don't even get me started on Laquan McDonald. Now we have this case where their body cameras just happened to be off against protocol, and the case where some Baltimore cop accidently recorded himself planting drugs with his body camera with his buddies chuckling in the background. Police in England generally don't even fucking carry guns, police in the United States kill more people in a day than some countries do in years. Of course, there is no sympathy for these people, it (mostly) involves black people who have run-ins with the law so why care? Instead we have legislators passing "blue lives matter" laws in states across the country. Jeff Sessions wants to expand civil forfeiture, even though it's proven to be used in an extremely corrupt manner. Until we examine true and thorough police reform and assess our gun culture it will continue to happen. Unfortunately it has become a partisan racial issue because what issue isn't these days?
p.s. I don't think it's a coincidence that some of the most egregious examples of police corruption and misconduct happen in Baltimore/ Chicago, cities infested with crime, the community doesn't trust the police enough to report anything thus gangs and real criminals go unchecked, no tips no arrests lead to hostility by the police against the community leads to corruption and misconduct which leads to mistrust and the cycle viciously repeats itself
BS on the officers getting off, etc.
Laquan McDonald - Officer facing 16 charges including Murder 1
Terence Crutcher - High on PCP and went back to reach in his vehicle, that is on him. Why not listen?
Samuel Dubose - Would have to see the video but was asked to take his seatbelt off and instead he started the car. Not saying this is a valid shoot here but again if you just basically comply the stop doesn't escalate.
John Crawford III - Police get a call of an armed man inside a store "waving it back and forth" and "pointing it at people". There are many guns like pellet guns that look very real from a distance and there is not enough time to figure that out in a confrontation. So why in the hell did Crawford think it was a good idea to walk around a store waving a gun? Sorry, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Your comment about no tips because of no trust is BS. There is no gang member or drug deal anywhere that's going to rat out somebody.
You are also way off on the gun culture stuff. People who LEGALLY own firearms are not the 99% of the armed robberies and murder going on in society.
Laquan Macdonald - Charged is cool, lots of officers have been charged with no conviction, notice I explicitly said conviction
Crutcher - someone being high is no cause for a shooting, there is a reason only one officer fired their weapon, she was in the wrong and deserved at least a negligent manslaughter conviction.
Dubose - lol @ the justification, start the car and get a bullet in the head, blame compliance rather than the policeman who fired his weapon and lied about the reason he did so. Reasoning like this is why police officers don't get convicted.
Crawford III - no evidence on video he was pointing the gun at people, guy was nonchalantly on the phone and not even paying attention to the air rifle. The guy who called in the police may face charges for lying, look it up. Then the fact that the gun was facing downwards and the police shoot the guy while he was on the phone doesn't bother you? Ridiculous.
I mean tips from the community not the criminals, you think a lot of the law abiding folks in the communities don't know who these guys are? You think it doesn't reach a civilian ear in a neighborhood when some known gang member shoots another gang member? Cmon. I am not way off about the gun culture stuff, more guns = more gun violence, period. Suicides, domestic shootings, murders and gang violence. You name it. I understand most people with legal gun ownership don't commit crimes, but we have so many fucking guns it isn't that hard to get it illegally, and some states with their shit laws don't even require a background check (the whole gun show law is laughably counterproductive). We live in a 3rd world country as far as gun violence and gun owners constantly excuse that because they want their guns.
What does "pervasive gun culture" have to do with overaggressive police officers?
I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason all these white kids are going into law enforcement isn't for the greater good of the communities, which they serve. A more reasonable explanation, to me at least, is that they want to have a job where they get to play with guns without, you know, actually having to do something hard like join the armed forces.
Well if we didn't have so many guns flooding this country perhaps police themselves wouldn't have to carry them and their overaggressive nature wouldn't lead to shootings.... i
Starts off by saying:
And then lists the strictest gun control cities as the one with the most problems:
lmao
Yea it's super difficult to bring guns from places with weak gun control to strong gun control. Like, it's impossible basically.
It is on record that the illegal guns in Chicago come from Indiana, a state with very lax gun control laws. BTW it is kind of irrelevant if you have strict gun control laws when you are surrounded by states and cities with horrible gun control laws and people are selling said guns illegally. Of course you know this (I certainly hope so) but you don't care, you were trying to push a narrative.
The USA doesn't have a "pervasive gun culture". We have a Constitutional right to bear arms.
As for this shooting, the cop is deficient and should never have been a cop. Sad thing is, this loser was celebrated by the community as being a Somali Police Officer. I am sure political correctness had nothing to do with a police rooking with 3 prior offenses remaining on the force.
Cops, by and large, are good people. Of course the news runs 24/7 whenever one does something bad.
Gun culture (Iwhatever that means) =/= what the police do with their guns.
Things are going swimmingly in Europe at the moment, aren't they?
whatever you do, let's not turn to racism! please stand with our somali community!
Racism as a trigger for police shooting is no longer a valid argument on its own. This Justine Ruszczyk case has proven that. Neither the Black Lives Matter group nor the Blue Lives Matter group has reacted to this shooting as strongly as they did in previous cases. Maybe this series of deadly shooting can be simply explained by the gun handling procedure currently applied by police.
I don't think a police shoots a black suspect because he hates black people. He thinks it is his right to protect himself. The root of the problem is how the police defines danger and whether that danger calls for the use of firearms. That! If we can come up with a better guideline for that, then I think these nonsense shootings will slowly decrease.
"I don't think a police shoots a black suspect because he hates black people."
In most cases, I agree, doesn't mean race doesn't play a factor. He may not hate black people but he may be more intimidated by them which leads to a more happy trigger finger, thus it has to do with race. One case (Justine) doesn't prove shit. Perhaps you would have a point if all races were proportionately victims of police shootings but it isn't proportional (even when you account for the higher rates of crime among minorities, although that is overplayed as I suspect minorities get caught more because they are constantly under suspicion).
You're so late to this party I almost cursed you out for this post. But, yes. LE is bottom of the barrel scum who never report on their own colleagues crimes. We've have been saying this for 2 centuries. But blaming Trump when he wanted to ban a guy like that from entering the country is beyond stupid.
Edit: Anyone blaming guns, I've blocked your dumb ass.
The shooting happened a while ago but the information on why the officer did what he did was released yesterday. This case is also different due to the nature of the shooting. I didn't blame Trump for anything, just talking about his plan to give more power to the police and whether it's good or bad. This post is not about border control or immigration (it can be elevated, though)
The guy was a Somali muslim responding to a rape. I've been to Djibouti and Ethiopia, meeting tons of Somalis. I am highly confident that his faith played a huge role in her being shot.
Late to the party meaning black men have been getting shot while un-armed for decades. These assholes don't have or follow ROE and are constantly escalating situations. Less cops is the best solution.
I just saw The Hateful Eight, I believe we have to implement a law that you can't shoot anyone who isnt literally trying to shoot you.
This thread is one big cluster fuck!
If most people screw up at their job, they go to jail.
If the police screw up at their job, someone dies.
If your job involves carrying a gun and occasionally drawing it and someone dies because you screw up, it might be involuntary manslaughter, but morally it's not murder.
How about screwing up, lying about it, then actively trying to cover it up? In any case these police aren't even getting charged with manslaughter so this point is moot.
That's manslaughter and obstruction of justice.
In the Laquan McDonald case the police who deleted the videos are clearly more screwed than the Van Dyke. In that case, the intent is very very obvious.
With shootings it's a lot fuzzier.
You've clearly never carried a gun for work. FOH.
LOL most people on wall street haven't. What's your point?
Great point, really crucial distinction. What's truly important here is the legal language that's used to describe these cops' actions
Fuck The Police -NWA
This is from CDC for males aged 15-29, crude homicide rates per 100,000 population:
It it surprising that African Americans are overrepresented amongst those shot by police?
Blue Lives Matter. Quit nitpicking one cop out of the millions that defend us. I remember seeing so many stories of Black cops shooting unarmed white men but of course it receives no media coverage.
BlueLivesMatter
Every live matters. We are talking about a better way for police to handle "special" situations without killing somebody.
