Private Clubs - Worth It?

Have the opportunity to apply for membership to Yale Club. Going to be working at BB as analyst, and wasn't sure if a club like this is still worth being a part of for networking reasons. I know for a long time it was looked at as top notch.

Yale Club is an outstanding bang for your buck and still very much packed with finance types - multiple restaurants, nice place to host guests or dinners, cheap hotel rooms if you have out of town visitors, great gym.

You probably won't use it too much in your analyst years but would recommend locking it down if you have the opportunity

I agree ^ I’ve heard great things about the Yale club. I believe they also partner with the Harvard club and you have access to both club facilities. You’re going to have to verify that but I believe that’s still a thing.

hahaha so based bate man

Indirectly - Union Club seems to be mostly finance, law and family money. Union League is a younger version of that, with more diversity in careers, Players is theater focused, Lotus is literature - for most, there is a financial hurdle, so you will encounter finance folks unless there is a specific cultural aspect.

Fully excluding the bullshit ones like Soho or Dumbo House and the exclusive dinner clubs like Casa Cipriani or Zero Bond.

Then there are the clubs you won't hear of unless you're already a candidate for membership.

I say indirectly, because people don't just go to "network" and talk work. You go, meet people or do an event, but you should be a well rounded individual and use it for a break from the bullshit of the office and the city. Helpful to know billiards, backgammon or squash as well.

Racquet Club is very finance-heavy. I'd also throw University Club, Metropolitan Club, and some women-only ones (Cosmopolitan, Colony) out there.

Realistically no 23 year old IB analyst is getting into any of these unless you're blue-blooded, grandfathered in via legacy, or attended a certain school with automatic membership (Yale Club, Harvard Club). You need to know a lot of members to get into these places.
