Quitting Zyns

Monkeys -

I know this is Wall Street. Everyone has their coping mechanism. Whether that be church, a hardcore workout at the gym, or medication.

Mine happens to be Zyns. I have been hooked on these things for the past year. And they worsen my performance, appetite, and mood.

Any advice on quitting? Just bought my last pack and I am going full cold-turkey after this.

Throw away the pack now. Get comfortable with throwing it that shit away despite it costing money. Every time you buy another one (you will) just throw it away. Eventually you might stop buying them since you know you are just tossing money away.

Yeah I can't believe how much of a money waste this stuff is. I was buying the pack today and had to go back to my car to find $0.27 in change because I only carry cash now. Made me feel like a pathetic dope fiend.

Start smoking weed instead

Weed is probably worse than nicotine in the long-run. Recent studies came out finding marijuana is linked to schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. I have a brother who smoked weed nearly everyday from when he was 17 to 23. Let's just say that he got off lucky as he self-reports no such disorder. But then again, some people have a stronger psyche while others have an unlucky and weakened one.

I don't know a single high performing successful person who regularly smokes weed

You don't know a lot of people.

Nicotine lozenges, nicorette

I am open to Nicorette patches that you apply on your body. But lozenges is a big no-no as it will worsen my mouth ulcers and gum irritation from Zyn'ng 24/7 lol.

I quit zyn a few years ago around the time I also got sober. Was also a smoker in my teens, vaped, dipped, basically exposed myself to every form of tobacco/nicotine-based bodily harm possible.

The trick is identifying what situations lead you to popping a Zyn in, then finding a way to condition yourself out of that mechanism of action. You probably throw one in on the commute to work, while working, showering, browsing the Internet, etc. My method was to find a replacement for those situations. I kid you not, once you get through each and every one about a dozen times, you will feel better. A few months in you will still think about them, especially when you enter a convenience store. A year later you won’t even pay attention to anything but the price.

IMPORTANT NOTE - you are now a nicotine addict. There will be no such thing as moderation from this point forward, unless you are very unique, which is something that you could ultimately convince yourself of. One is too many, a thousand never enough. Don’t take the first zyn - it’s not the caboose of the train that kills your gums, health, and wallet, it’s the first car.

Try hypnotherapy. I did 1 session over zoom and it significantly helped me with a lifelong habit of overeating. She said she can help people kick smoking in 1-3 sessions as well, so I imagine would help with zyns. Costs $150/session but nice thing is it takes no willpower

Once you’ve decided that you’re going to quit -which sounds like you have, throw away the pack at the end of that day. Buy plenty of packs of gum (Trident is OP) and use those in place of zyns. Also: AVOID ALCOHOL, this stuff makes it hard to stick to strictly gum and will make you want to relapse.

Also, stock up on coffee and get ready to drink a bit of it. When I quit last summer, I couldn’t sleep for two days from the withdrawals. If you’ve ever wanted to watch an entire movie series (or get a weeks worth of work done in a few days) now is your chance. You’ve unlocked the ability to not need sleep anymore because your body is going to not let you sleep (again this only lasts for two days.) After this period your sleep is going to drastically improve in quality and you’ll need less of it.

Finally, you need to stop thinking of yourself as someone who is physically dependent on nicotine. As someone who is, that’s your title right now. As soon as you quit, you remove this title and need to defend that in your mind. There will be times where you feel like you need to use it again, in those times pop a trident and drink something that tastes good.

This ain’t gonna be easy but sure as hell worth it in the long run! Good luck
