Recommendations For Vacation Home Islands/Beach Towns In Mediterranean
Looking to buy a vacation home in a nice, quieter, safe and rich-ish spot in the Mediterranean in the next year or two.
My criteria:
- Near an international airport (Mallorca, Mykonos, etc)
- Not too far from East Coast, so preferably Spain/France/Italy rather than Greece/Cyprus etc
- Relatively safe and rich region, so not somewhere like Sicily or Croatia
- Either an island or a town on the beach
- Preferably local population who can speak English relatively well, so will likely be near a touristy area
- Good nightlife/bars/pubs nearby, but doesn't have to be Magaluf or Ibiza or anything
- Can get a 3-bedroom villa or equivalent on the water for 500K Euros or less
- Preferably in a country with a golden/investor passport type thing that lets you do the Schengen travel thing with EU passport later on
Quite tough to get a 3bd villa on the water at that price point if you want to be close to an international airport, and with the qualities listed. Spain is probably your best option, and if you are not dead set on Mediterranean, Portugal is also nice.
I'd try and look south of Malaga. There are a few listings on jamesedition at that price point around Sotogrande (golf area) and Estepona (mostly tourists, family friendly). You'll be able to drive to Marbella and Puente Romano but likely won't make the trip more than a couple of times during a 2-week holiday.
North of Valencia is also decent, towards Castellon. It's more value for money, but less prestigious than the Malaga area. Lots of nice restaurants in Valencia.
The northern coast of Italy might also be within budget, where Genoa and places around will be cheaper, but are less likely to speak decent English. Mostly local tourists.
It gets exponentially more expensive the closer you get to France. Don't know of any places in France where you could get a villa on the water at that price point. More likely to be 5-10x that in less popular places, and 25-100x on prime French riviera like Cannes, Antibes, St Tropez/Maxime, etc.
Yeah I’d say Valencia although more people probably speak English in Barcelona.
Croatia is literally in the top 3 safest countries in Europe, and it is a rich country lmfao. Average american who thinks only Spain, France and Italy exist in Europe
