Title kind of says it all, but I'm in the market for a new laptop and was curious if you guys had any recommendations on solid laptops that you may or not bring to the office.
My current Macbook that I used in college is absolute shite and just wont cut it for much more than watching Netflix or streaming music.
I am mainly looking for a PC (not Mac) that will handle many different windows and streaming sites at once. I'm talking no system slowdown with like 20 different windows open and a gaggle of spreadsheets open as well. Don't care about looks or brand, just something that's gunna get the job done and be reliable.
I know you can easily supe up older laptops but TBH I don't got the time or the patience to deal with that.
Any recommendation helps.
Well laptops at face value seem enticing, however you would be much better off building a computer if you don't need to use it to travel.
If you don't care about looks or brand, build a PC. It will cost you less than the laptop, it will do what you have stated you want it to do, and it takes no time at all.
You can use PC Partpicker to select the parts and they make sure they're compatible. You also won't have to worry about buying a new one ever so often because you can just replace the individual parts.
Also, it seems hard, but if you can color a coloring book, you can build a PC.
Agree with Tandem21, however I'm more of a laptop guy than a PC guy. Granted I never custom-built a PC tower before, it would be way more efficient and cost-effective to build your own PC or buy a PC. If you're traveling or just like the fact that PC can be mobile, I recommend shopping around Amazon or Newegg for some decent gaming/fast CPU laptops. There are hundreds of computer/laptop reviewers on Youtube so check them out as well.
Costco has the best value laptop deals I've found anywhere. $500 should get you all you need

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced desktop computer? Need one for working remotely that will have a good graphics card with additional memory for GPU to handle the Java for remote access. Will be using remote for building PPT books and Excel models (w/ FactSet at times) so would need something that is pretty quick (and don't have to wait to make sure what I typed was actually entered). Do I have to worry about getting the best CPU and amount of RAM as well (e.g., i7 processor from Dell)?
Also, should I get one large monitor or 2 separate monitors?
Any desktop suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dude your work is not even CPU/GPU intensive. Just get any desktop with I7 6700k with 16GB RAM and SSD. Its not like your a simulation engineer that needs a 64 CPU- $30k desktop. I recommend you build your own from cyberpowerpc. Build a bad ass battlestation!

I will be an IB SA this summer - should all SA's have PC's as their personal computers? Or do you think I could put it off until next year when I (hopefully) start FT? All else equal I would rather put it off until next year so I can set some cash aside this summer and actually get a decent computer, but if its absolutely necessary I wouldn't mind getting one now.
Also - if I should get one now, what are your recommendations? Still on a college budget unfortunately so keep that in mind.

Just dual boot your mac and run windows.
You won't need your own computer for anything work related.
