Renting a 2 bedroom for 1 person?

I'm looking at a specific apartment complex's website and several of the 2 bedrooms listed online are the same price or cheaper than 1 bedrooms. The "2nd bedroom" for a lot of these are simply alcoves, but the apartments as a whole are still bigger than the 1 bedrooms. Is there a reason for this? Is there anything stopping me from renting a 2 bedroom on my own? Prices are listed for the entire apartment and not per person, right?

These questions might be stupid, but I'm new at this.

I rent a 1br that is more expensive than several 2brs in my building for a bunch of reasons

1) it's larger than most 2brs 2) it was just renovated before I moved in (this makes a big price difference as some of the 2brs are outdated) 3) it's a corner apartment, so more windows and natural light

And obviously there's tons of other factors like layout, appliances, bathroom that go into it.

Could also be that they're in a shitty location. I can buy two bedroom condo's in my city for significantly less than comparable singles, but they're right on the river which got flooded last summer. Something people from out of town might not realize at signing time.
