Research Topic: Subprime and Derivatives

So I was going to do a research project on some derivatives trading strategy; then I decided screw that I want to do something more fun (read: more qualitative). And I am pondering whether I should argue for or against Warren B's statements: “Derivatives are financial weapons of mass destructions” After much thought I decided that I'll be using the subprime mess to argue against that statement, and I will argue that Derivatives did NOT exacerbated the subprime crisis, and instead helped alleviate some of the damages.

Now all I have left to do is write a proposal and get my advisor to approve. In the mean time if you have nothing better to do, why don't you drop a comment and give me your line of thought on the topic.
