Roadtrip to Maine - Need Suggestions

Hey all - finally got approved a few vacation days to do a little road trip to Maine (from NYC). I'll be going with the gf and will be staying at a place that is about 20 minutes away from Portland. I believe I'll be hanging out mostly in Portland but wanted to hear some suggestions on places to visit, eat, and do some activities from my fellow WSOers.

Would appreciate everyone's input!

Thanks in advance.

Portland is a food and beer mecca. You have to love seafood though. My suggestions are-

  1. Central Provisions- small plates... I make sure to eat here whenever I'm in town.
  2. Eventide Oyster - awesome place for seafood and cocktails. Never thought I'd like oyster shooters as much as I did here.
  3. Slab- not your usual pizza..if you like dough this is your place
  4. Bite Into Maine- with many different lobster roll places around town and coast it's hard to choose. But this truck in Fort Williams park is the best IMO. This is where the famous lighthouse is also..beautiful spot in warm weather.

Breweries- I believe Portland has the most breweries per capita . Have to go to Allagash- it's a free tour and great with beer tasting at the end. Also there are like 3 micro breweries next door.

Nightlife in portland is hit or miss. There is one main short block of bars in a alley near downtown but all of them suck. I had a great time though at Bearded Lady a bit further away from the usual spots.

If you have time go to Acadia National park.

Love Portland, but those winters...ehhhh.

Want to shack up with New England old money and do blow with their hot granddaughters on a boat in the Casco Bay? Want to buy some L.L. Bean straight from the manufacturer? Want Shipyard Export Ale?

Head to Freeport.

Want to see some frightening French-Canadian yokels that look like they came straight out of Trailer Park Boys? Head to Brunswick.
