Senior Year Advice

Interning this summer at a place I love working at, but might take a stab at IB full-time recruiting. However my GPA is pretty damn subpar. At college I play a sport, which takes up 30+ hours a week of practices, games, and other training. I’m very involved with extracurriculars, president of our investment club, IB club, and directly related internships last summer and this summer. I’ve begun networking with alum and others to try and get a foot in the door. My dilemma is this: should I step away from my sport and focus much more of my time on academic performance and get my GPA up as much as I could, or should I leave everything as it is and emphasize networking? (I have a decent reason/story why my GPA isn’t ideal.)

Really depends on what your current gpa is. You’re only working with one semester, so your gpa increase is going to contribute only 1/7 (assuming you plan to take your average number of credits for the last 6 semesters).

If your current gpa is X, and Y is the GPA you think you can get, just plot (X+6Y)/7 — now it’s easier to make your decision

If the difference is huge, then work on school, if not, focus on networking.
