Sex-addicted apes on brink of extinction in central Africa

''A species of ape is on the brink of extinction in central Africa, even though the animals are addicted to sex, Sky News reports.

Bonobo apes live in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and often have sex every few minutes.

But because they have quite low fertility, are hunted for their meat and their babies are stolen as pets, their numbers are now perilously low.

The bonobos -- the closest species to humans -- are now classified as "endangered." ''

Forget about KONY 2012.

This may seem like a bizarre affection of mine given my other posts. But, here's why Abdel's story actually matters:

Remember also that this video was filmed over 8 years ago and the progress in studying Bonobo intelligence has only been more groundbreaking - most notably with the two primary subjects having produced an offspring that has only ever known a human lifestyle yet can still communicate with wild Bonobos.

I don't consider myself a conversationalist, environmentalist, animal rights activist, etc. in the slightest. I can't stand the annoying hypocrisy that is PETA and I eat an incredibly high percentage of meat at every meal, even if to the detriment of my own health. HOWEVER, I believe that the loss of intelligent life on this planet is a tough pill to swallow. It seems a strange paradox to me that there are several species in the families Hominidae (of which we are a subset) and Delphinidae that have proved time and time again to be not only smarter than human retards, but even than socially "normally," yet severely unintelligent people (yes, in an IQ test, I would bet on the average Bonobo over a person sub-75 human every time), despite being tossed aside as dumb beasts.

What kills me is that the average IQ (which in itself a measure of human intelligence and therefore obviously skewed against other species) of the dumb fucking savages killing the Dolphins and Great Apes is overwhelmingly closer to their prey than it is to say, the average Financier, Engineer, or College professor.

Stated otherwise, if you have an IQ of 120 or above (which is a reasonable expectation for most members of this site - despite the stupid questions and incessant trolls), the difference between yourself and the average person is roughly twice the difference between that average human and the average Orangutan. If you're in the 135+ club, you start to see that the reason you hate everyone else is that they all start to look like Apes from up here...

Agree with the above post: anyone beyond the age of five years old who argues against preserving nature is a delinquent asshole, and should be studied in an institution. Wanton destruction of a resource isn't a bad idea because any one group says so, it's because wanton destruction of a resource is a bad fucking idea because you never know when you'll need them. Simple point that a lot of people just don't want to hear, moving along.

I was simply going to agree, but then I remembered on little detail: the post starts with

Abdel'Forget about KONY 2012.
but then you go on to call PETA hyppocrites? You're doing the same thing.

My IQ didn't have to be 135+ to figure this out.

abdel, doinking monkeys are a funny post, but please get a reddit account and post every news article you read there, or at least try to somehow tie them to finance. I haven't said anything yet because you're an interactive user, but at the same time, there's enough clutter on the site and I saw this article in half a dozen of the other new sources I scan every day. Don't worry, awareness has been raised.

My apologies on not elaborating my claim (see below). However, I don't really see how Adbel's claim about Kony 2012 has anything to do with mine about PETA - in fact, the two were made entirely independently of one another. Some clarification on that point would be great.

As far as PETA's hypocrisy goes, the thing I take issue with is their staggering 97% Euthanasia rate in 2011 for all animals in their care: http://www.aolnews.com/2010/03/09/petas-euthanasia-rates-have-critics-f… It's perhaps debatable as to whether or not it's actually against-message, but for a nonprofit with such widespread public recognition and celebrity support, it is my belief that getting random actresses to get naked in support for Vegetarianism and then paying for exorbitant campaigns to disseminate the photos is hypocritical while they're simultaneously killing almost every single animal that actually comes into their care.
