Should I start following my coworkers on social media?
Here’s the situation. I developed a close bond with my coworkers during the past 3 months working as an intern. They are the closest friends I’ve made in years. However, I’m leaving the company by the end of this week. The thing is, I lied heavily about why I’m leaving. I made up bogus reasons about my work visa, which weren’t 100% false, I still had problems there. But again I lied like I can’t believe I could. The reason I’m lying is that I got a new, better position. I couldn’t leave voluntarily on time because my internship here is on a contract. The only reason I could leave was to lie about reasons “out of my control”. The new job pays like 4x & is in a better city.
Now even though we’re close, I can’t help but think they’ll be resentful when they find out I lied and it’ll be awkward if i follow them on social media or interact w them irl. My fear is that they’ll think I wanted to leave them and basically I don’t respect them enough. Should I just move on? Or take the leap and follow them? They’ve asked about my socials a lot before but I had none.
I really want to maintain a good relationship with them, I’ve been lonely and socially inept for way too long. Thoughts?
