Skiing In Iran?

So I grew up in Evanston, Illinois. I used to be a fairly serious skier - I have skied across most of the top spots in the world (name the place). I used to compete semi-professionally in alpine skiing and freestyle competitions (cross country killed my knees for some reason).

Now I work in NYC since my knees couldn't keep up with my dreams. I've been dating this Iranian (sorry Persian), girl for about 18 months now (going great, we met at the firm we work at in NYC) and I was utterly shocked and impressed to see that Iran has such beautiful nature when she showed me some pictures a month or so ago. Like, super beautiful nature!

What was even more shocking was how nice the ski resorts looked. Waist-deep powder and incredible elevation changes. I actually didn't even realize it snows a lot there too. I am super curious to go skiing there now and want to go with my girlfriend (who still has family over there).

So my question is: has anyone here actually been to Iran? Anything I should consider as an American before going? Any tips or advice?

Thanks!

You may ski into trouble. There are some regions in the world where, despite you being a good person, your citizenship can incur trouble.

I am from there and grew up there until I immigrated to Canada in elementary school, nonetheless, I believe I can be of some help. Iran really is like any other country, avoid the bad spots in town, be wary of scammers and you are literally good to go, everything else is just propaganda. However, it is a different county with different cultures and systems, I would say you will definitely benefit from a local guide (an absolute necessity imo) to help you navigate through everything. Also I’m not sure if you can just outright visit as a tourist with a US passport you might need a special type of Visa (do not quote me on this as I am not absolutely sure). Otherwise, beautiful nature, good looking women, insane amount of history and culture, amazing food, and the currency exchange rate is extremely advantageous. The hardest part is finding a guide to go with you and plan things based on your interest, the rest is like travelling to any other country.

Afghanistan has some of the best ski spots in the world if you can get past the Taliban

Afghanistan is a landlocked nation. Salute to anyone willing to go to it because you'll get a nice Muslim radical belt tour.

What does being landlocked have anything to do with it?
