Social Venture Partners - Anyone have experience with them?
So I've been looking for ways to get involved within the community and good organizations to support, but hadn't found anything that I was really excited about.
Heard about the organization below today and became pretty interested.

Basically, it works somewhat as a mutual fund for community social initiatives and programs. You become a Partner by contributing $5000-6000 a year (location dependent, $2500 if under 35) and then that pooled money is used to make investments or grants in the community.
As partner, you also have the opportunity to assist and help with the investees (whatever initiatives your local chapter ends up supporting). The concept is to pool the money together, invest in promising community initiatives, and then leverage the various backgrounds and experiences of the Partners to further help these investments/initiatives.
Seems like a pretty good concept and a good organization to get involved with but was curious if any monkeys here had experience with it. Thoughts?
