SpaceX launch and landing
Just watched the latest SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch and land, pretty cool stuff. Kinda made my day and injected some positive vibes to an otherwise mundane week. Definitely reminded me that despite our differences (and there are so many), human beings are pretty awesome.
I read that book on Musk that's 400 pages +. This dude is a monument of perseverance along with his A-team of geniuses. SpaceX was on the brink of going bankrupt when their initial launches all failed and the money came through in the end and they managed to make it work on the third or fourth launch I think.
Just a clarification: They only had the resources for one more launch, and if it failed, then they would have been finished. Their last launch succeeded, and the rest is history.
sounds like the end of a Parts Unknown episode
I spent a couple hours reading the https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/08/how-and-why-spacex-will-colonize-mars.ht…</a">post about SpaceX and Mars on WaitButWhy and damn, that thing reignited my sense of adventure like crazy. I remember as a kid reading about the different ocean explorers, about Daniel Boone, about Cortez, etc and I was sad to learn that satellites exist and that the whole earth is photographed and that there are no new lands to discover.
But if SpaceX is able to achieve its objectives, even in double its projected timeline, then damn, what a time to be alive. I don't care if people think that SpaceX has impossible goals and that we'll never see someone on Mars in our lifetimes- I'll be rooting for them every step of the way because nothing else can possibly be more exciting.
