Stingy things you do to save money

What are some power moves a brother can use to save a few dollars here and there? Things like stealing your toilet paper from the public rest room in the lobby or showering at the gym to lower your energy bill.

Eat less/ cook at home. Use as little electricity as possible, can do this by always turning lights off in rooms that you are not using or turning down the temp of your fridge/freezer. Make coffee at home/the office or go somewhere where it costs $1. Drink less booze, even if its one less drink every time you go out. More like jewish moves than power moves though.

This is considered stingy? Also, get some LEDs. I swapped all the recessed lighting in my house with LED retrofit kits recently. It acts as air sealing from the attic too.

I would advise on maintaining at least two rolls on standby. As the OP pointed out they can be acquired through other means.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

In college I would offer to be the guy that organized rent and utilities and would collect all the money a month early so I could earn interest on it. Mind you this was like 4 years ago and interest rates at my CU were maybe .25% and I'd make less than a dollar a month. I also used to frequently offer to pay for everything on my card, then have everyone venmo me, I would take the points and turn them into cash back.

You don't need to submit receipts for a per diem. You could just take the money and cook at home.

Man, you never skimp on toilet paper. There are so many ways to save money. Buying cheap toilet paper should never be one of them.

Intermittent fasting is good. But, at least buy some lettuce and canned tuna or something over ramen.

This is genius. No pockets = no place to put money = no way to spend money...

Holy $hit y'all are some stingy mother fuckers! I was thinking along the lines of cooking at home, drinking coffee at work instead of Starbucks, etc

but fucking toilet paper being too expensive?

I'm not even in IB and most of you guys make bonuses larger than my salary and I don't do any of these things...holy Christ.

What are you going to do if a female companion/escort comes over?

yall are fucking idiots, you can't cut your way to greatness. you control your fixed costs and go from there.

  1. live in a small apartment, with roommates, potentially outside your target area (FiDi, Hoboken, etc.)
  2. think more along the lines of charles tyrwhitt instead of thomas pink
  3. cook at home, pregame hard, limit big nights out
  4. for vacations, think more bros' weekend at the beach instead of a week in europe. easier to bring drugs if you drive, and a lot cheaper.

you can be stingy as all fuck on things like power and water, but reality is, unless you stop showering or forgo technology/HVAC, it won't move the needle. put big stuff first, that extra $15 you save on power & TP every month doesn't add up to shit except for less friends and a bloody asshole.

jesus guys, get it together

Or find a girl who makes 2x what you do. That's what Goldie did. Do what Goldie does, as a rule of thumb throughout life. When faces with a dilemma, just stop and ask yourself, "What would Goldie do?" Make a WWGD keychain. Get a tattoo on that weird flap of skin between the thumb and and index if you must.

Doesn't really matter how much she makes; you'll still have to pay for at least half of everything. But a good strategy is to then divorce her.

"Tex35" I honestly just gorge down on the office fruits and haven't spent a dime on breakfast nor lunch on weekdays. (I'll literally have like 6-8 bananas and a couple apples). The only times I actually spend money is on my corporate card for client meetings.

Sounds pretty fruity to me.

I only "cheap out" if it (directly or indirectly) benefits my health. So examples would be: - rarely using Uber - no fattening desserts - never ordering take out (how it is not blamed for obesity?) - rarely shopping online - not paying for instant reproductive gratification etc.

savings go straight towards $200 dollar running shoes and $4,500 dollar racing bicycles, among other fitness splurges.

1) Uber is awesome 2) Take out is fine - choose wisely 3) I get tons of deals on Amazon

I used to work in the FX dealing desk before. Our office was in a hotel building. In the afternoon to evening there's this small food kiosk that sells untouched hotel food at a fraction of the price, I'd buy lots of those, put it in the fridge and just stick it in the microwave. It was around 60-70% cheaper than buying the food from the restaurants around.

I'm in Southeast Asia. Actually I'm not really sure if it's buffet food, I just assumed because it was affordable compared to the hotel food.

Actually, in the morning until afternoon it's still not cheap but gets a 50% discount by evening so I get that for dinner too. The serving sizes are just big so I normally end up eating half of it and the other half for the next meal which is why I saved a lot of money.

Just cause he got a BB summer analyst offer, doesn't make him a banker yet. And even first and second year analysts are not ballers- many have student loans to pay off. Judging by the sound of it, this kid doesn't come from a wealthy family and probably worked hard to get his BB SA offer. I think you're the douchebag for caring how much money he's spending. Mind your business.

just tell him that you need a dollar....ha-ha....and if he won't even give that to you, then he ain't worthy of nothin'.. but seriously though, in his defense, if this is in nyc, taking the subway/ bus wouldn't be too frowned upon, prsonally i'd roll my eyes at a 20 year old boy who took me out with a limo or some shit like that

Your stingy friend might have a boatload of student loans, or be involved in expensive litigation. I applaud his creativity.

As a girl, I would have liked it if he cooked my dinner. Maybe he is just planning for retirement or weeding out golddiggers.

Cool idea. I'd totally cheap out on the first date and if they don't call me back I'd know they're trolling for $$$$.

Besides, being underestimated by your competitors (but recognized by your bosses) is one of the best weapons you can have in your arsenal.

drexelalum11WTF, he printed out the bus route? Doesn't he know how much paper costs? Clearly, the man should've memorized that shit.

Lol, gold.

This issue is very close to my heard, being a frugal guy myself. Id love to have a friend like that. All my friends think that I'm a cheap bastard because I like to walk everywhere in the city and not take a bus, train, or cab. Honestly i dont give a DAMN what anyone thinks of my spending habits.

I have a friend that purposely wears shitty clothing to see how people he doesn't know treat him , their tone quickly changes when they see him get into his Ferrari Enzo.

Props to your friend, I know a few people like that except they pretend to be clueless in order to ascertain people's true character. And walking in the city is fun / good fitness even, that's not even a matter of frugality IMHO (of course, for distances over 40 blocks or so I'd take a train/bus/cab).

Now to the OP's post, it's really none of your damn business as above posters have said. That said, I'll give you a little defense - I can't say I've ever heard of anyone taking a date...on a bus....to a bar. Either a cab is involved, or they're going to a restaurant - can be a dumpy place, I'm sure even you big-spenda have done that. In either event, it's really not yours or ours to judge him.

I know someone just like that. He dresses like an ordinary guy, refuses to buy anything other than Walmart sneakers. He uses those sneakers to mash the peddle on his 2010 Lamborghini LP670 SV.
