It's ridiculous to not let tesla or any other company not sell their goods (assuming they are legal goods). These are the kind of stupid, antiquated laws that shouldn't exist, but only do because someone is lobbying for them.
I honestly do not understand why a Tesla store wouldn't be allowed right next to an Apple store or a non-franchised restaurant. There really is no difference
Difference is the automotive dealers lobby and their desire to prevent consumers from purchasing direct. Total bullshit.
The funny part is this is being marketed as "pro-business" in parts of Jersey. By the Republicans. This is pure mercantalism.
I understand why "according to the rules" that Tesla can not sell their cars directly. But lets be honest Tesla is changing the very definition of what a "car" is. Call it a glorified HotWheels to get around the law idc. What those who are fighting against seem to understand that you still need a willing consumer to fork over the cash to buy any car from anybody dealer, franchisee, or Tesla store front.
Christie is a piece of shit. Typical NJ. Why we give a shit about automotive dealers is ridiculous.
They should just open a dealership in a friendly state and keep the showrooms. Have the cars delivered.
I'm guessing Tesla can set up a subsidiary that functions as a "dealership", yes? Musk is a smart guy, I'm assuming he's using this as PR. The auto retailers lobby paid in $155K to campaign finance....I'm assuming Tesla has far more assets at their disposal with which to lobby?
