The internet is running out of ideas?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/apr/29/…

interesting article, better founded than most. Not sure i agree with it totally, but there are some very valid points raised, especially around the crazy patent buying going around at the moment.

This is the progression of everything: empires, thought systems, family structure....everything heads towards consolidation. A good thing develops its own center of gravity and the disparate entities drawn to it merge to form a new whole. When that center of activity no longer functions, new roots take place and the cycle repeats. That is the nature of things. This sounds Bhuddist because it is.

Here are a few trends that will become megabusiness, just to get the ball rolling: * medical billing/tracking platforms * P2P lending * international gov't information sharing

The internet is not "out of ideas", the writer of the article is.

This article is stupid and short sighted. Comments like this have been made throughout history, but man's ability to invent and innovate is essentially infinite. For example, a new Lamborghini has nothing on a Model T according to this:

"That the automobile has practically reached the limit of its development is suggested by the fact that during the past year no improvements of a radical nature have been introduced."

-- Scientific American, Jan. 2 edition, 1909

protectedclassthose who know nothing in the tech world usually write about it. see engadget for further examples

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.

They almost closed the patent office in like 1940 because they thought 'everything that can be invented already has been'.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford
