The situation in Libya just gets worse.

Basically the aides to Qaddafi have asked 15 energy companies that operate in Libya to come up with the 1.5 billion dollar fine that was levied on the country for the Pan Am 103 bombing. Some have agreed to comply.

Thoughts?

That was years ago. Is your concern based on whether he stays in power? Disgusting, but sadly the cost of doing business.

Good call, didn't realize the date.

I don't care whether he stays in power or not. I was more so concerned with whether or not it's ethical for companies to pay off dictators like Qaddafi in order to do business.

ethical no. but would anyone have looked into it if the government officals didn't come out? probably not, companies just see the payoff as an expense, as i'm sure for numerous oil companies to pool together 1.5 Bil, it wouldn't take more than a day or twos earnings..

Edmundo BravermanWhen I saw the title of this thread, I got a sudden rush of hope that they were sending the Jersey Shore crew to Libya. You can imagine my disappointment. Thanks, dick.

Same here. I thought we'd at least get an article about Sitch picking up Qaddafi's bodyguards

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?
