The (Un)fortunate Truth of Technology
This is going to be sort of a fun, speculative, yet maybe scary reflection on a couple new developments within the tech space.
There was a short video posted on WSO already linking to a short video clip of Google’s new initiative: Project Glass. For those of you who are unfamiliar, check out the video below or the thread here (thanks to JeremyLinMVP).
A couple days ago, Google moved forward with key patents on the design of the glasses, possibly suggesting their seriousness in bringing this product to market.

I realize that each of the individual technologies that these glasses use is more or less already being implemented (on smartphones, touchpads, etc). I haven’t found any information regarding a timeframe for when that might happen, but I wanted to pose the question to you guys:
Are you happy with the direction that technology is taking us?
I was recently talking to my roommate about this, and he’s just genuinely scared by it. If you’re not afraid yet, just take a look at the video below:

Now, I don’t actually know if something like this is going to ever be accepted and commercialized (just look at the segway), but after watching the video, it kind of does look a little cool. Unfortunately…maybe my recent viewing of Wall-E has affected my view of the future and I’m imagining a society full of fat, lazy people devoid of human interactions.
Are we moving towards this?

the google thing is kinda cool. But the Honda thing is idiotic. Funny how their little video only had fit people riding those things. Everyone knows that if that moronic invention caught on, then people would look like your last pic in the original post, haha.
That Honda commercial made laugh so hard; I wouldn't be caught dead on one of those.
By the point where we all have this sort of shit, well be taking pills that will work like genetic therapy to make us all perfect and well all be tall and muscular and thin and noone will have diseases or be deformed in any way.

I see what you're saying -- while I agree that the it's people creating technology based on their own vision, it's still going to be an extremely small minority of people relative to the general population creating it, or even capable of creating it. I think what you might be saying is that it's the consumers who ultimately drive what technology is produced or not through their purchasing power.
Nevertheless, at least from my own experience, there's a growing gap between things that the younger generations (not even sure if I can call it 'generation' because what I'm referring to is early teens, etc) and those in their upper 20's, 30s, etc. I was just posing the question that by the time that products such as these come out (if they ever do), if the general user on this forum would be supportive/averse.
