Thoughts on Afzal Hussein and other finance personalities?

What is the general opinion of this guy? He makes all these YouTube videos talking about the finance industry, doing an episode by episode analysis of HBO’s Industry, selling courses, etc. and he only worked at Goldman for 3 years as “Consultant Relations (GSAM)” (can anyone tell me what this is?)

Is he qualified to be the arbiter of our industry or just some other social media hack?

Not a criticism of the guy, I have no opinion of him either way, just curious.

Not sure who this guy Afzal Hussein is, but 'Consultant Relations' at GSAM will mean that he worked with asset consultants, probably in a sales or Investor Relations kind of role. Large asset owners like Pensions, Soverign Wealth Funds, Endowments, Family Offices, etc. will typically hire an asset consultant to help them allocate their money across a bunch of different managers and investment strategy (PE, PC, HF, etc). Consultants are incredibly impactful in determining which AM gets the Asset Owners $$, so that's why large managers like GSAM have dedicated roles like 'Consultant Relations' to interact with them.

Have stopped watching Afzal for years now. He's been rehashing the same old content for years and years now with no added value. The moment when I rlly stopped dead in my tracks and wondered wtf is this guy smoking, was when he urged interns to set up 5 COFFEE CHATS A DAY over the internship. His reasoning was - 1 coffee chat takes up 30 mins. If you can't set aside 2.5 hours a day for coffee chats, you're unproductive. Geezus

Don't like the fact that he was just a sales/ relations guy for 2 - 3 years too. Lots of wishy washy roles like that in huge AMs. And his left-wing, diversity bias that he unapologetically shoves in your face sometimes - he has to realize that not everyone watching these videos is a diversity candidate with a 'us against the world' mindset, fighting dicks from posh unis. Feel like that's just being over-sensitive, and in reality, no one looks down on you because you grew up in a council estate.

His content was fire when first starting out, but after that it gets old and you rlly feel his biases in your face. He is defo more qualified than the avg TikTok influencer
