‘Thousand points of light’

RIP George Herbert Walker Bush

Still not sure what to make of this administration. Is someone just trolling Trump?

In July, Trump had this to say about the former president:

“Donald Trump”Thousand points of light, I never quite got that one. What the hell is that? Has anyone ever figured that one out? And it was put out by a Republican, wasn't it? I know one thing, Make America Great Again we understand. Putting America first we understand.

At Bush’s passing this weekend, Trump’s White House put out a statement saying this at 2am Buenos Aires time, while he and Melania were there (most likely sleeping):

“Donald Trump”Through his essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country, President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service -- to be, in his words, 'a thousand points of light' illuminating the greatness, hope, and opportunity of America to the world

What do you think?

"mbahopeful88"You know for sure Obama hated/hates anyone with a Bush last name. Same is true on both sides, of course

Couldn't disagree more. People disagree in a democracy, but as a national identity, we should all want the same things. If you simply disagree out of hate, that's destructive to democratic processes, as it will more than likely ruin the goal of improving all American lives just to spite a few.

That's what makes Trump's comments and actions so sickening. He breeds that type of mentality. His base loves it and he's just fanning the flames to stir them up and keep his destructive machine going.

And if anything, shouldn't you view specifically Trump negatively? He's the only one with clearly negative views of people, just to turn around and put out statements like this White House one in honor of the person he spoke so negatively about. I hear he's attending all ceremonies for Bush now. That's "grandstanding" and lionizing more than anything.

Republicans and Democrats don't want the same thing. Hell, even within these two broad groups, there's wide disagreement. Conservatives want limited government and a low tax burden with controlled borders. Trump republicans want closed borders and a national welfare state. Progressives want a large government and a heavy, progressive tax burden with open borders. These things are not the same. All of your bullshit fluff talk does not change this. It is reality.

Yes, Trump is grandstanding. That's what bothers me. It's so manufactured. So fucking artificial. Trump hates the Bushes, as do the Obamas. The praise they've given recently is conjured. It's as insincere as your bullshit response to my initial comment.

Ultimately, people just want to live a good life. It's merely a disagreement about what would constitute a good life.

If the ultimate goal isn't simply stated, then I think we've identified the problem.

"mbahopeful88" Sick of lionizing mediocre people and shitty politicians. Also sick of the fake/forced sympathy and moral grandstanding. You know for sure Obama hated/hates anyone with a Bush last name. Same is true on both sides, of course.

Hate is a very very strong word.

p.s. no way Trump wrote that 2nd twitter post, way too coherent.

"zanderman" It isn't particularly clever to point out that Trump insulted/criticized someone in life and then said kind words in death. Everyone does that

It isn't about being clever, it's about getting the facts straight. Everyone had disagreements with Bush. No one deliberately disparaged a man for something that's clearly upstanding if done honestly, then backtracked on those exact words, just months later.

Somehow, people who believe in Trump do everything possible to revise what the facts are. I love how bizarre people have shown themselves to be.

If people on the left making an endless number of genders is bizarre, this Trump revising of all things factual is equally as bizarre.
