To All You Workout Junkies: Radiate Athletics

I'm sure many of you have seen Kickstarter, the website for creative types to raise money to fund a project. Members of the site pledge a certain amount of money and are in turn promised some sort of award (usually the product the person is making).

I recently came across an interesting one: Radiate Athletics

These guys have created a shirt that allows your body temperature to change the color of the shirt. Based on where you are exerting energy, the shirt will lighten (and outline veins) to show what muscles you are targeting. This visual feedback will allow you to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout and hitting the muscles you want to hit. Seriously, check out the video, it's pretty cool.

Even though I'm not convinced this will really help my workouts, I was intrigued enough to go ahead and order one for myself. Unfortunately they won't ship until August, but I'll update when I get it, if anyone is interested.

What do you fitness-conscious monkeys think? Is this the future of sports apparel, like they claim? Or is it just a gimmick that really has no practical appeal to working out?

I think the guy in the Youtube video at about 30 seconds in wearing the blue shirt has probably the worst form for curls I have ever seen in all my days of seeing shitty form at the gym. Yeah, sling those dumbbells, thats definitely hitting your biceps. Work out with your brains people, not your egos.

Just pledged $29 for the blue-to-white long sleeve

Regardless of whether it works or not it just seems like a cool shirt.

It doesn't seem to light up a ton based upon what specific body part your targeting. Or more specifically it doesn't tell you anything about how hard a specific body part is working. For example if you're doing curls, sure you expect your biceps to turn to that brighter color, but beyond that I doubt you can say, oh its not bright enough I better hit a few more sets.

Yeah. I backed it because the shirt is cool. I got the short sleeve for $25 in red. But the concept is kinda stupid if you ask me. We've all gotten along just fine without a shirt telling us whether or not lat pulldowns were targeting our lats or not.

As someone who's in the gym at least 4 days out of the week, I have to disagree. There's no reason to have a long-sleeve shirt that glows when a part of your body gets hot. What's the point? Your body informs you when you're using a muscle; it's called getting tired. And personally, I don't want anyone to see how "hot" my quads and the rest of my legs / ass get when I'm doing squats, if ever they decide to make pants like this (hopefully not).

On a much more important note, is anyone else tired of the Apple-themed easy guitar song that people play with EVERY new product launch? Every fucking thing that gets released has to have some sort of mellow guy with a guitar singing a tune for it in the background. The video for the shirt had the most absolutely horribly mismatched song they could have thought of for this idea, yet they stick it in there because it's a new product, and this is what you need to launch a new product: a mellow guy singing a tune with his guitar.

in it 2 win it

I think it's pretty cool. That said, I have difficulty believing in the shirt's longevity...
