Toast to A New Year

It is that period of the year when colleges are kicking off their celebratory introductions of new students while upperclassmen are returning to the comfort of library cubicles and classrooms. With all senses of sentiments permeating throughout the air, I am going to share a couple simple advices we should all have in mind as we start the new school year to the best of our abilities:

To Freshmen:
1.) Take advantage of the fact that you are a freshmen! Go try new experiences and have fun with classes. There will only be few times in life when people will forgive you so easily just because you are a freshmen.
2.) Take hard classes, easy classes, BS classes, but keep challenging yourself. There is so much you can learn while at a university in books (don't worry...keep reading) and from projects with friends.
3.) Of course, don't forget to learn outside of classroom environments. College is a time to realize that you lived inside a bubble your whole life. While the epiphany may shock you, use it to your own advantage to jump up rather than sink down.

To Sophomores:
1.) Welcome back! You are no longer that freshman who is lost in the wrong building for your classes. Realize that although you may feel like you have underlings to rule over (freshmen), you don't. You are still a sophomore. Fight through the slump with the same mindset you had as a freshman...the one full of openness and excitement.
2.) Consider what you want to do as a career. You won't find a definitive answer, but thinking about the topic and taking some classes to gauge your interest really won't hurt.
3.) For business students, maintain your grades and have fun!

To Juniors:
1.) Yep. Recruiting. Practice and prep with everything you have to beat the daunting recruiting period. Keep your grades up and don't forget to attend information sessions and realize that they are probably useless at times.
2.) Reach out to people early and build/maintain network.
3.) Still have fun! It's college.

To Seniors:
1.) Whether you have a return offer or not, enjoy the last year you will have as a college student. Afterwards, you are going to jump into the real world that may make you feel like college was heaven. Outside world may be harsh, but your life lessons in college will help you fight through it.

Welcome to the Class of 2017. Great to see you again to the Class of 2016. Good luck to the Class of 2015. Farewell to the Class of 2014.
