Took some time today to prepare for Wanna Cry Ransomware attack.

I hear ransomware attack was severe in Europe affecting 99 countries and tens of thousands of people. I hear that they can block access to university student's thesis papers. Mostly I hear stories about hospital computer freeze. It even reached Korea where I am from where movie theater's kiosk was disabled by the attack. Some predict this may get worse and that there will be "Black Monday"

I don't think there will be "Black Monday" but I decided to take some time to protect my laptop just in case. I backup my laptop drive on Google Drive and my USB flash drive. I noticed that my antivirus expired so I paid to renew that. I think I am protected now. Is there anything else I should do?

Is there anyone else doing anything to prevent ransomware attack?

(Update) I also downloaded Windows Update specifically to protect ransomware. If you are interested, here's the link. It took me about 45 minutes, I think. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/secur…

Wanna CryRansomware was a hot issue lately. If you're on Windows 10, you're fine most likely fine. If you're not on Windows 10 but installed the patch, you're fine. If you're not on Windows 10, not patched, but SMBv1 is disabled, you're probably fine.

I remembered it was ten days ago when such virus firstly reported online. I had so many important files on computer so i just downloaded some so-called "tool" for protection. I was using Windows 10 OS. It turned out that antivirus can not prevent such Ransomware for Windows. I was looking for protection that time.
