Tough Love being abused

How did you learn to distinguish between tough love authority / constructive criticism, and those who abuse their position to take cheap shots & demotivate you in professional settings ? Did you create boundaries in your own mind of what you would and wouldn’t accept? Before lockdown I literally had even the HofT wife shitting on me as well and she doesn’t even work there! Do I have to accept & bite my tongue for this too? I have a real problem with authority in general and learning to swallow my pride and keep my mouth shut is something I know I have to learn. Having said that, being the source of amusement is not in my nature and I am scared I will act up and make a reputation for myself. Appreciate any advice or anecdotes you could share. Apologies for being vague and posting a general question. I can’t post specifics for obvious reasons. Thanks

Why would the wife be involved in any of this?

I’m a big fan of Deepak Malhotra’s commencement speech about quitting often and quitting early. Don’t quit something because it’s hard, quit because it sucks.

This really depends though- do you want the golden, linear path? That involves putting up with a lot of shit. If you’re willing to travel the mountain off the trail, fuck em.

Your call, but that’s my $0.02

I think there are a few things to consider.

  1. Kill them with kindness - everyone - all the time. Everyone likes the nice guy except the chicks. Nice guys literally finish last with chicks.

  2. Be careful of stooping down to low blows - not a good look.

  3. Superiors can be harsh sometimes. Ask yourself - is this criticism deserved or undeserved. If you don't think you deserve it, you're either delusional or being too hard on yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself (or delusional). If you deserve it, use the time to mentally think that you're gaining humility and focus on being better for next time.

  4. Treat yoself to some good THC or if that is banned maybe some benzos can legally help to take the edge off.

  5. Self TLC - pamper yourself - enjoy the shower - meditate - take salt baths - eat healthy / workout. A good body will produce a clear mind.
