Tri State surfing

Anyone here in the NE? I'm a fan of Belmar (is on world surf tour), Allenhurst, and Deal in NJ. Long Beach and Rockaway on Long Island. How about you? Where do you go?

Im in the NE. I'm in CT, so I usually surf in RI, namely Narragansett, Point Judith, and Newport/Ruggles, the main spots. I really want to check out Long Island by the end of this year, essentially the spots you mentioned but also Ditch Plains in paticular.

UFO, thanks for joining and posting.

Thanks for creating the group! I invited a few people to join as well, so we'll see what happens. Ditch Plains is good but I haven't been there in probably a decade so I can't speak to it now :/

How is surfing in RI?

Its pretty good, the water is warmer in my opinion, and Ruggles is a blast. There are also two pretty mellow, consistent beach breaks in NPT which are very fun on most days. I am heading there in a few weeks and hope to catch a few bumps. I would highly recommend RI as a weekend trip in the fall.

Since you seem to know LI- have you ever been to Fire Island? That place looks ideal to me.

Thanks for inviting some people, I'd love to see this grow.

Half of my extended family is from LI. Fire Island is cool and there's a ton of stuff to do. It's also the gay capital of the tri-state area, so, not really where I fit in...

To UFO Insider:

Just curious, would you say that NJ as a whole is more consistent than Long Island? I get the impression that it is, but thought I would ask since you are familiar with both areas.

Long Island is nicer to surf, but the waves are less consistent overall IMO. My favorite spot is in Deal Township, the cross streets are Ocean Avenue and Darlington: there's a double jetty that force the waves into a consistent and focused break and it's a lot of fun. If I have time to chase waves...and I don't lately :/...then I'd prefer Long Island (1) because I have family to hang out with there and (2) because the beaches are just a whole lot nicer.

Sad part is that I haven't seen much of the LI/NY coast outside of those areas....do you have any experience there?

I have only been to Jones Beach once for a concert. I have no experience there. I've only surfed Rhode Island and Hawaii, but lately I really want to check out Long Island. I had read (on the internet, of course) that NJ is more consistent, so I was thinking that maybe I would try some spots there first when I had some time. But really, I am more interested in LI, and I will likely look into the spot you mentioned.

Thanks UFO, hope you are doing well.
