I think Burgum is the best choice. Settles down non-MAGA Republicans, placates the religious right with his support of a near total abortion ban in North Dakota that Trump can then hand wave away in order to appeal to undecided by saying it’s up to the states, and generally seems to be a normal businessman.
JD Vance is probably the most likely and most MAGA (which is strange given that he was such a never Trumper and literally called Trump “American Hitler”) but IMO would actively hurt Trump with a lot of swing voters. It will be very, very easy to campaign against JD Vance.
Rubio is a wet blanket and complete JEB! these days. He gains nothing but a Hispanic last name on the ticket here, plus one of them would have to change their official residence like Dick Cheney did. “Lil Marco” ain’t it.
Tim Scott is a good politician but isn’t a good choice IMO. Same wet blanket tendencies and he wouldn’t pull Black people to Trump like Rubio potentially could with Hispanics. He is a very positive, optimistic person though so that could help mellow out the Trump ticket.
I’d be interested to see if Trump pulls a complete out of left field pick here. Haley & Vivek have both been sucking up to him lately. Plenty would be willing to take that gamble to get one step away from the Oval Office.
Genuinely interested to see who you right wingers prefer here, both personally and strategically.

Man he actually picked Vance. Bold choice - definitely a fire the base up move and not one to reach moderates. Could be huge if he runs away with it but also will be much easier to run against.
The irony is that Trump and Vance are essentially political moderates when it comes to public policy. They are, at best, center-right (Vance has been praised by the Teamsters, which says they may not endorse the Dem candidate this year) and the Vance pick is not being well received by conservatives (like me). But this brings up a point--Vance and Trump SEEM right-wing because of their affect. Glenn Younkin in Virginia, for example, is a more traditional conservative than both but he has a moderate affect, so he comes off as more left-leaning despite being more right-leaning in policy.

Fuck yeah JD is by far the best man from amongst the establishment cronies he's having to pick from (bar so low an ant would trip), though frankly would've loved to see an olive branch to RFK. Screw the toadies like Burgum or Rubio, that'd just be repeating the same mistake he made with Pence.
Vance is anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion even for incest or rape, supports Russia over Ukraine, and has said that if people love their kids, they will stay in abusive marriages.

Obviously we don’t agree politically, but strategically this is a weird one. Vance adds nothing to the Trump ticket that Trump doesn’t already have.

You obviously haven't bothered to read any of his policy points beyond how CNN and other liberal corporate media try to spin them. This is on par with Biden and Harris posting on X about how Trump will nationally ban abortion after he was literally on stage barely 48 hours beforehand answering the question about how he believes it's a State's rights issue and agrees with exceptions when the life of the mother is at stake. Vance was literally a Principal in VC working for Peter Thiel, a prominent and openly gay man. No politician in the country is pro-Russia, they are anti-Ukraine and for good reason, it's a corrupt nation that's been used as a slush fund for the security state and is being used to launder hundreds of billions into the military industrial complex at the expense of 100s of 1000s of lives when the entire conflict could've been avoided. You are clearly physically incapable of arguing in good faith and are foaming at the mouth after this past weekend's events. It's sad to see you this deranged man, been on this forum long enough to like a lot of what you've said/done but this past year you've been on par with the financeabc/ozymandia/Drumpfy-types.
We don't want political threads but by default they are not unpublished, but rather "no bumped"...meaning they will stay published but won't get bumped up to top of recent with every comment. Most if this is automated by the way...there is not some master with his/her hand on the button.
This is a way to de-emphasize political threads while still letting the handful of members that like to debate still enjoy a "spirited" discussion...at least until it devolves into name calling and childish behavior. Then we just remove it... rinse and repeat.

Yes, the article he wrote more than 8 years ago before Trump had set foot in the White House is wholly demonstrative of his entire political philosophy and completely holds up in the modern day. Absolutely nothing has changed since July 2016 that has shifted anyone in the world's opinion on Trump. This needs no further investigation. You're the smartest most specialist camper in the cabin and can rest easy now knowing you've proven everyone else the fool.

While I would have preferred Youngkin or Vivek, I think Vance will do a decent job. A Catholic convert is quite interesting. Also interesting is that Vivek and both Vance and his wife were in the same Yale law school class. One of Vance’s children is even named Vivek. That combined with the Thiel / Mithril connection I think this admin is going to be quite good to Silicon Valley. Even ignoring his VP pick I think Trump has had this election in the bag since before the debate.
