UNC Kenan-Flagler Advertisement

Has anybody seen that advertising banner for the UNC business school? I find it to be one of the strangest advertisements I have ever come across. It reads"

"THE ONLINE MBA YOU PROBABLY CAN'T GET INTO"

I guess I was unaware of their preftige. Strange.

I think it's kinda clever actually. The fact of the matter is, their online MBA has just about nothing in common with 99% of other online MBA's out there. UNC is trying to attract talent, other online MBA's are trying to attract tuition dollars (from anyone).

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

Hey thanks for the insight. I am no longer strangely offended, and am now interested. Successful advertisement after all.

"That dude is so haole, he don't even have any breath left."

Guest1655an online mba has got to be one of the most useless overpriced things in the world.

This is the very perception UNC is trying to avoid with this advertisement.

I'd say if the purpose and message behind the ad has to be explained to people, then it isn't a successful ad. Same for logos for instance. If you have to explain it to me, then you need to go back to the drawing board. If the message has to be explained, then it's failed.

I'm sure they get a bump in people applying because they feel challenged to do so, however the message that this isn't your typical online MBA gets muddied behind a snooty comment that likely turns off a lot of quality applicants. They're trying to be too cute on this one I think.

Their other ads are better saying stuff like "You want the best. So do we!"

I never comment on threads but saw this advertisement and just had to search to see if anyone picked up on it. I agree that if you have to stop and think about it, then the ad isn't working. The point is that most people that would apply to a prestigious MBA program already know that UNC has some of the best programs around - especially for entrepreneurship. The irony in this is that not many people know this so I think it's actually a pun on stupid ads where they are pointing out the fact that they are usually seen as one of those "on-the-side" ads/schools and the reality is that they actually have a great program that most people probably can't get into. It's great marketing because if anything, you will end up Googling their program to find all of this out already. :)
