USS Gabrielle Giffords? WTF, SECNAV?

So...the Navy departed from precedent and is going to be naming LCS 10 the USS Gabrielle Giffords. Yes, she's a hero. Yes, she's an inspiration. But she is by no means a medium sized city. The LCS'es are supposed to be named after medium sized cities (or concepts, i.e. Freedom and Independence, though the latter is also a city) such as Milwaukee (LCS-5) or Fort Worth (LCS-3). I'm ok with the first two being named Freedom and Independence, respectively, but not with the USS Gabrielle Giffords. The USS Stamford would have been, comparably, appropriate.

Any other taxpayers agree?

Man made money, money never made the man

i'm sorry if this is harsh, but i frankly don't understand how she's a hero. she got shot and then recovered. if that's grounds for making someone a hero, then they should start naming ships after half my family.

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

Exactly what I'm trying to get at. This is the most eloquent way to put it, honestly.

this is fucking bullshit.....she got shot, so what? hundreds of people get shot everyday for wrong reasons by crazy people. It is a sad unfortunate occurrence nonetheless. Hero she is not, sorry. You want a hero? go through a day in the life of a single mother living at or near the poverty threshold that is struggling for her family to survive due to rapidly rising food and energy costs, or a single mother that gives everything she has so her kids can go to college......THATS the definition of a hero
