Vault Guide, BS? or any better guides?

Hi,

I'm freshman and pursuing an IB role and management consulting. I found this Vault interview guide free to print on internet. Is it good enough to understand the general idea of finance industry and make a decent interview answers?

Or is there any material that I can use so I can learn about finance industry and prepare for interviews?

Thanks a ton for your time and advice!

P.S. I have this BIWS course that deals with excel and fundamental finance knowledge. Just so let you know.

I used the Vault guides years ago and they were good.

If you want a shot at IB, focus on getting a perfect GPA and good internships.

I'm not sure what sense of the finance industry you're interested in learning about, but there are some books list threads on here that cover some broad topics. Some books like 'Den of Thieves, Barbarians at the Gate, When Genius Failed - The rise and fall of Long Term Capital Management, Monkey Business (title seemingly largely related to this site), Security Analysis (if you're interested in where it all began), Valuation (McKinsey), The Smartest Guys in the Room (Enron), Big Deal (Wasserstein), Liar's Poker.

I'm sure some other people can chime in on more books or material about the industry. Follow your interests as there are some niche parts of finance - just order a bunch of books off of Amazon to get started.

For starters, go through the CFA L1 curriculum, Joshua Rosenbaum's books on investment banking and Damodaran's entire collection. If I were you, I would start with the last one; that is where you will really enjoy finance.
