I'm going into my senior year in high school and have started actually thinking about how to prepare for college and my future after college. I asked questions on Reddit and one person said that I need to make connections through a frat. He mentioned something about joining a "business fraternity" and not a "dog house fraternity". How would I go about looking for one and how else can I find connections?

how do you look for business fraternities? idk your uni's website, google, facebook, linkedin? And dude relax, you'll make connections as you put yourself out there and make friends and get involved. Focus on getting into a good uni first
Are business fraternities really effective for IB? MY school has one of the top DSP chapters so I'm considering joining. Already in a social though so I was wondering if its worth the extra work.
If you're going to join a fraternity, join an actual fraternity with a good alumni base
don't join a frat purely for the connections. go through recruitment for traditional frats, and then do the same for business frats. you'll get a sense of what makes sense for you
Are there any benefits of joining a frat? What would be the point of joining a traditional frat? I'm not opposed to it, I'm just not experienced.

in high school, I was completely against it, I wanted to be free, have a good time, get my shit done, and not do any of the stereotypical fraternity stuff. a hallmate of mine convinced me to come to a party, that happened a few more times as I visited other frats, and some definitely were awful, but one clicked with me. the guys had similar interests, weren't full of themselves, and wanted to do the same things I wanted to do: chase women, get drunk, and make money.
the positives I saw in my frat were you always had a group of guys down to do something. as a college kid, I wanted to do everything, experience everything. tailgate for a game? helluva lot more fun with 20 bros and some chicks than just you and your roommate. go on a beach trip and rent a nice house? same deal. think of it as economies of scale but oriented towards fun. combine that with an embedded mentorship you get from the older members who are looking for jobs, and you'll learn a lot.
some people call it paying for your friends, which I suppose is fair, but the way I look at it, having fun costs money. if I'm going to try to meet bros with the same interests as me, wouldn't it be great to find an organization with all of them right there?
besides, personal growth can be big if you get involved. managing budgets, managing people, planning events, and so on. it was truly an awesome experience.
that being said, we never did any bad hazing, never took advantage of chicks, never started brawls, so maybe we're the exception to the rule.

If I were you I would become good friends with people in different frats and then go to all their events and really connect with people. That way you dont have to join, but still get the benefit of partying and networking.
I would take this advice with a huge grain of salt BC a lot of fraternities (most at our school, mine included. But maybe this is just bc our school has a large, established greek system) are extremely exclusive about who is allowed at events etc. and it typically never ever includes non-members.
That's literally what rush is though - open evens for prospective members to shop around and find the best fit

That last part doesn't seem like it makes much sense to me. I hope it's bullshit.
You should try setting up a Linked-In account and then using the advanced search function to cross reference Michigan with big banks on the Street. You could get more specific, lets say your on a team or in a Fart you can search by that criteria. Before you do that thoguh you would need to expand your linked in network which means connecting with proffesoor and administrators first (Often times alum will stay connected with professors) once you get a few alumni in your network you will find you are connected to more and more and more. When you connect to one alumni you are also connecting to a whole network of people. The increase in network size is exponential.
Id still go into the career office but be a banker about I.e. be relentless! DO NOT EVER TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! if they can help the ross kids they can help you.
Get your GPA Up Immediatly. Maybe highlight your Major GPA if it makes u look better
Join the school finance, econiimc, investment clubs ASAP.
Start developing your story or pitch. G-d knows youll need it if you successfully get in contact with some alum.
Parents friends, Uncle, Aunts their Friends, because you never know.
This is a stretch but I herd of kids who carry around Businees cards that have some relevant info about them on it and hand them out if they randomly meet some. Again you never know.

social fraternities usually have better connections than business fraternities. business frats are full of hard-working, boring unconnected kids, in my experience.
Business frats = boring, not super useful. Social frats = excellent place to meet successful alumni.
I'm many years removed from college, but this was my assessment as well. I wasn't in either a social or business fraternity so I've got no skin in the game. A lot of my friends were in social fraternities, and I think they made more valuable long term connections that extend to this day. I believe that there are certain fraternities that do a good job of balancing academics/career promotion and having fun...I'd recommend seeking that out during rush and determining if it's a fit.
This is because in social fraternities you have a legitimate connection to your brothers and consider them to be, well, like brothers with whom you will stay connected with for life. Because of this they are 10x more likely to go out on a limb for you whenever you need help (professionally, but also in many other ways). Business fraternities are usually filled with boring people with less social skills who are strictly there for limited networking. Later in life you are not as likely to still be connected with them nor are they going to be as likely to assist you professionally because the legitimate emotional bond is not there that would have been formed from many wild experiences within a social fraternity.
Not exactly a past frat boy but I use to be apart of organizations like SIFE (now Enactus)/AIESEC. These were pretty big organizations around the world so look into those if you're looking to play it safe. I hear about Model UN too but I'm not into debating too
Please don't join AKP. Such a joke, I was laughed at by a frat president when I told him I wanted to join it. It's TYPICALLY (*NOT ALWAYS) full of try hards who learn modeling and don't go to parties.
spend your money wisely and join a real frat.
There's a reason social fraternities are called "real fraternities" for a reason
Fuck outta here dude. Stop being a pussy and rush. Fraternities are fun. You always have a place to party, a bunch of buddies to party with, and lifetime friends. If that doesn't sound fun to you, I suggest you drop business as a whole because you're probably a boring ass person.
Join a social fraternity, its the best decision I've ever made in my life. If you really want to join a business one, join a social fraternity first, and then rush a business fraternity the next year.
