Honestly, what do you guys think? I am working right now at a place with a casual-Friday policy, but I am very averse to wearing jeans in the office. Actually I don't usually wear jeans even on weekends.
There is something about keeping your work life and leisure separately that is reflected in the way you dress.

Frankly, casual fridays are about separating the weak from the strong. Do you really want to roll into the office wearing jeans and a polo? Is that really how you want your superiors to see you? I make a point of renting a tux for casual fridays just so the other interns know that there's nothing casual about being a top performer and closing fucking deals.

I've been wearing a suit & tie daily for a while now, and to put it bluntly it's a pain in the ass. I wish I could just wear nice dress shirts with slacks on a regular basis, or maybe in the 100 degree summer I could rock a peter millar polo.
I'd be all for it, but still would dress up for client meetings.
It's tricky because the worst thing you could do is underdress but you also don't want to look like you have a stick up your a**. I suggest nice jeans, tucked in button up and nice shoes.
Casual Friday in the tech world is pajama day. It's all fun and games till you show up naked not understanding the context.

In my opinion you look stupid being the only guy not wearing jeans when everyone else does and its a firm-wide policy. Nobody will care what you do, but don't think it makes you stand out or more professional than others for not doing it
I think they're great, but I usually wear khakis+polo just in case I have to take a meeting in another building. Khakis are more comfortable to me than jeans anyway.
I find that jeans and STDs have many similarities.
I personally don't have any, but many people do.

My 18 odd experience in the professional workplace is that casual Fridays are normally a sign that pay bumps aren't going to be good.

I'll be honest, I pretty much view my work attire like a uniform. White button up shirt, navy slacks...everyday, regardless of the casual Friday policy. Just easier to wake up and grab the same thing everyday without having to think about it.

I thought I'd be like Harvey Specter and wear a different designer suit every day but now I'm only wearing dress shirt and formal slacks to work (in SF) and I frankly think its going to be hell wearing a suit. I long for Fridays when I can slip into sweatpants, sneakers, and a t-shirt
Wore Jeans and a polo to casual friday for the first department/group I was in as a SA and was totally fine. Rotated to a different group, did the same thing, and got absolutely annihilated from the VP there. Definitely double check the conditions for whichever department you're in. If unsure, dress how you normally would.
Anyone else ever observe that all of the firms that blew up in 08/09 were the ones that were business formal? Look it up...
In my last I-banking job, I rocked jeans daily once I got to VP (at a boutique). I left to found a startup, and I wear shorts and t-shirts every day now. As an entrepreneur, you are always on-call, and there is no place to divide work and personal life so you might as well be comfortable.
I love the feeling of proper suit pants - so I just wear that, but instead of wearing a white shirt, I wear a blue one. No tie or so. Some nice shoes...

Have you seen what your other co workers wear on casual fridays? Ask a few if you don't know to get an overall idea of what is good to wear and what is not okay to wear.
Since I am new to the forum I can't post links but try googling something like casual friday men to also give you an idea.

There is nothing wrong with asking the firm or, as sampearson said, seeing what the other people wear on that day.
Ask a F-T analyst, different places it means different things. Safest guess is to go suit, no tie, the first time and then see what other junior people wear (you can just take your jacket off if you feel super overdressed).
Usually, I stroll in wearing my finest birthday suit.

where do you work? that would define casual... For example if you work in a top tier IBD casual friday would prob consist of letting your tie a little loose. If you worked on a porn shoot it would prob consist of letting your dick hang out.
haha we have casual Friday and i learned the first Friday that no one in FO actually participates and all the other people wear jeans and t shirts every day so...
At my summer place, cas Fridays meant I didn't need to wear a tie....nothing more
