I get up at 4am. All it takes is a rhythm. As for falling asleep, once you get the hang of getting up at 4am, you'll be tired around 10pm anyway so no need for any external help. Initially, take some melatonin to reset your inner clock.

I try to sleep the same number of hours every night. When I stay up longer I just sleep the same number of hours and get up. But tbh even on weekends or on vacation I tend to get up at roughly the same hour, just because I wake up naturally round the same hour by now. If you can't fall asleep, just take some melatonin, it really does help to reset your immer clock.

Doesn't sound like a logical woman. Would re-evaluate commitment level

Yeah we go through cars quick, and part of the commute is through San Francisco. It's just a nightmare.

Wait, you've been through a plural amount of cars and you're just dating and still on the fights over logistics stage? Bro

Has she thought about moving her work hours (if possible) to avoid traffic?

I can't imagine doing 140 miles a day in the car.

I didn't realize the commute would be such a big part of this post... I know its a lot, but it was only supposed to be temporary. We do a lot of driving in general, I used to commute from San Jose to San Diego 420miles give or take, thats a drive I used to do about once a week. There are plenty of people here that do 50 mile commutes on a daily basis, so I never really thought of it as that big of a deal. It's not forever, we're looking to make things a bit easier.

actually, she just doesn't want to admit to you that she's been driving for uber, hence the mileage, and just doesn't want to wake up at 4:30am everyday like a sociopath

Is it feasible to just wake up quietly and move to a different room? My wife wakes up 30 min before me so she get her morning workout in before she leaves for work. She puts her running gear in the living room the night before, slips out of bed, and throws her shoes/headphones on out there. I usually don't even notice.

Also, as far as falling asleep - less caffeine later in day. And crush yourself when exercising even if only for a short workout, the more "deeply" I'm exhausted the better I tend to fall asleep.

The major draw for me is being able to get a good run and workout in, cook breakfast, and catchup on some news before the day starts. If I'm up at 4:30 it makes everything easier to get done before work starts. For her its just about the commute, its an hour drive without traffic and depending on the day an hour-and-a-half to two hours depending on when you hit a city. Over all it works out well, its just building the sleep cycle to stick with it. It probably doesn't fit well with everyones schedule, but it makes a good deal of sense for us.
