When I used to work in banking in NYC and these analysts tell me how much they spend living in Manhattan because want to experience the night life and getting hammered every night because they make six figures. It's sounded absolutely foolish.

Also ~25% after tax. NYC adjacent with a good commute to work in NYC. The city is fucking expensive. I'd take a 10% pay hit to work elsewhere, and I'm from here. I'd make half of the hit up in lower taxes and another 100% up in lower rent.
