I wouldn't say I know a ton about any one war, but I do know a bunch of random, specific facts about a bunch of wars.

I didn't want to drop it first but mine is the Anglo Zanabar war.  Can you imagine being the British casualty?  Ouch.  I think Russia in Afghanistan is also pretty cool

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

The early part of the war in Afghanistan. If anyone is interested, Alone at Dawn is probably the best book I’ve read about the time period. It’s about the infamous Battle of Takur Ghar, which is the first Medal Of Honor recipient whose actions were recorded. The author of the book has a popular YouTube video where he narrates the drone footage

But I’ve read quite a few books about a lot of SOF units in both Afghanistan and Iraq. A more gritty book about the mid Afghanistan war is Level Zero Heroes.

Also if anyone wants a CIA Officer perspective about that era, Left of Boom is fantastic as well.

Buddy of mine wrote Redeployment about his time in Iraq. (mostly Kandahar) It's good but very rough.  My cousin in law read the first story and was just WTF. Nope.

I’ll give that a read- thanks for the recommendation!

There were two world wars. The first was otherwise known as the Seven Years' War, 1756-1763. The second world war was 1870 to 1991; it started with the sub-war, the Franco-Prussian in 1870, and ended with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.

With respect to the second world war, I think in 1,000 years historians won't distinguish between WW1, WW2, Bolshevik Revolution, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc. They are all part of a single global conflict--a war of civilizations. What emerged on top for a bright, shinning moment in history was the United States. For a period of about 10 years, the United States was the wealthiest, most powerful, most influential, most dominating hyperpower to ever exist. And poof, just like that, out went the lights. The American empire was so short that it will be but a footnote in history.

What in the world are you talking about?  The US just spent something like 800 billion on military toys this year, and most certainly is not going anywhere.

Military Expenditures

Your are such a moron. Why am I always forced to engage with you? Our military budget is not what makes us a hyper power. The U.S. is in rapid fiscal decline, those like me who once supported the American empire no longer wish to export our cultural or military influence, our nation is being torn apart by internal strife, we are universally hated, our birth rate has crashed, and we are a nation that hates itself and its history. But yeah, we have 11 aircraft carriers. Congratulations.

I'm a naval nerd, so there's broadly 2

1) WW2 and the ending era of battleships. I know the majority of naval battles in the Atlantic and Pacific, gun specifications, speed, knots of most cruiser - battleship class boats

2) Submarines: Cold War to now.  Russian Submarines designations, ICBM/cruise missiles, the newest movements/developments in the sub world, etc.

The NJ (BB62) has a great set of poorly produced but nerdy great youtube videos you should check out if you're into that stuff btw.
