What would/did you do if/when you found out that your SO cheated on you?

I read a lot of stories of affairs and having "side projects" in high finance. With that in mind I decided to ask the question in the title. Curious what thoughts you all have.

I have two things that will end the relationship immediately no questions every time 1) cheating 2) psychical fighting

Physical fighting is an interesting one- any rationale for that? Can't people just have a bad day and accidentally slap you in their anger? Obviously severe but I mean bad days happen.

What?? I think it's safe to say that any partner who comes home after a bad day and expresses that through physical violence is NOT healthy to be around.

But what if they are Muslim and spousal assault is widely accepted from the teachings of Shari'a law,the Quran and Hadith. Surely you're not Islamophobic, are you?

I'm arguing about the frequency here. Not like coming home every day and punching you but would a slap on rare occasions make you dump her? What if she apologizes after hitting you?

"Skyywalker" Yeah that doesn’t matter she already got psychical, and it will happen again. Zero tolerance for that shit.

So you're intolerant. Got it.

Yeah I had a girlfriend in the past who liked to throw fists during arguments and after putting up with it for two months it’s just not worth it. If they can’t keep themselves from getting psychical they aren’t ready for adult relationships.

What if you've been together long enough that you feel attached to her?

Well, you asked what I would do. That kind of breach of trust is a no-go for me.

I'm not saying that no one out there would be able to work it out, because people do, but I have no use for a relationship that lacks trust and commitment. Weird to see that concept getting monkey shit thrown at it, but here we are.

"Pump and Dump" Seriously, what the hell's going on? I'm seeing an incel thread, virginity thread, now this.

I hope it's not just "kids these days"

It wouldn't surprise me if it was the same 1-2 posters though mistaking WSO for reddit.

Be thankful.... this type of breakup sucks but at least at the end of the day you have something to motivate you to move on. You have something, for lack of a better term, to be angry about. I think the breakups where the person simply tells you that they are no longer attracted to you or just don't love you anymore are much worse.

Better for this to happen now than years down the road with kids, house, etc.

I would leave the SO, anyway, I have had my heartbroken too many times, I'm not dealing with it. I'm focused on my myself and improving my career. If she is legit crazy and you know it early as a girlfriend and you want to marry her, make her sign a prenuptial agreement. If she won't, that defines something about her. Everything happens in life for a reason.

P.S Also if you spend crazy money on wedding ring, she is legally obligated to give back to you back, she agreed to married in to you in a contractual agreement that the ring is a promise of marriage.

Cheating is a total no-go for me. I'm pretty principled when it comes to relationships (of all kinds), and principally, if you're in a place where you can cheat on someone, then you really don't care about that person in the first place IMO. Same goes for me, if I was in a position where I was cool with/thinking about cheating on my S/O, it would be time to end it with S/O... Its just a respect and commitment thing to me beyond all else.

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but your girlfriend cheated on you big time while you were in 'Nam and out shrimp fishing...

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Not to break with the "dump her" consensus, but I think the answer is realistically very different based on relationship length, other family, length of cheating, etc. An SO for 6 mos? Sure, dump. Your SO of 15 years and parent of 3 children, who cheated with the fitness trainer twice? That might be a case where couples counselling might be warranted before leaping to conclusions.
