What’s a good gift to buy for my mentor?

Hi wso. I recently successfully lateraled to my dream company and thanks to my mentor who gave me some good advice along the process. I want to buy a gift to him for thanksgiving and I plan to spend $100-200. What is a good gift to buy for my mentor who is in his 50s, Caucasian male and works as a trader?

Kinda lame and under your budget, but a recurring gift I use for superiors/mentors is a good book. Ideally the book should be something you've actually read and a topic that you've discussed with this person ie. leadership, financial markets, even something off topic or not work related. I've even gotten books that I know the person has already read. Book lovers enjoy a fresh sentimental copy of something with a personalized note on the inside cover. The whole idea of giving a book just shows intellect and that you are actually listening to the advice they are giving and following up with your own research.

But if that's not your and your mentor's thing a nice bottle of wine literally never fails and still shows appreciation.

if they're a reader, I'd say a book but a collector's edition leatherbound type thing, like nassim taleb's incerto in leatherbound: https://www.amazon.com/Incerto-Deluxe-Randomness-Procrustes-Antifragile…

a really nice bottle of wine should be good, if it's for thanksgiving he'll likely open it at thanksgiving and tell people about it, so he gets to feel good that he's a mentor and you get some anonymous approval from his family

I often opt for a gift basket with alcohol, chocolate, and special snacks (truffles, coffee beans). It can  be delivered with a note attached and customized to include flowers and stuff. I sent this to a few mentors/supervisors I respected - they all loved it!

I also bought a few hard copy of a books that colleagues wanted to read - it went really well.

I always like an interesting bottle - one from an unusual region or small producer instead of just another California red that is mass produced and available at every big box store

I'd go to a local wine store (not a Total Wine, but a small wine specialty shop if you can find one) tell them your budget and that it's a gift, looking for a smaller winery, and they should be able to guide you well

Lol you could buy like 30 AK-47's for this price on the market. Honestly wild how easy it is to buy automatic weapons outside developed countries. Just gotta find a guy who knows a guy. Cambodia used to be able to pay a couple hundred $$ and shoot up a cow. Pay a little extra and you could use an RPG

I would definitely buy one of those just out of princple. Can't get any actual AK's anymore (so close to buying that VEPR .308 but that F'in ban hit).

married for long time but his kid is fairly young, 7-8 years old

Then why not get him something for his kid? Something cool like an awesome lego set, Nintendo Switch, etc.
